Sanden PXE16 Air Conditioning (Aircon) Compressor – Seat

Seat Sanden PXE16 Aircon Compressor Not WorkingAir Conditioning Compressor Problems
Has the air conditioning in your Seat completely stopped working without any warnings? If your Seat is equipped with the Sanden PXE16 air conditioning compressor (aircon pump), you will find that it is a very common failing part and one of our best sellers, because this common failing aircon pump is fitted to a wide range of Seats. When this aircon pump fails, it just stops working and the only way that you will identify that it is faulty, is when you turn on the aircon switch and realise nothing is coming out through the vents. Very rarely will you notice a change in the sound of your engine running or any warning lights on the dashboard.

Reason For Common Pump Failure
The common reason why the Sanden PXE16 air compressor fails is due to a lack of lubrication within the mechanical unit and being such a wide-spread problem I think it’s safe to say it is a manufacturing defect. An air conditioning compressor never just fails – there is always a root cause to why the aircon pump would stop working and in this unfortunate case it is a costly manufactured defect.

Although many other dealers may have acknowledged this fault, it is questionable whether or not they will replace it under an extended warranty in goodwill.

Metal fatigue is caused by the lack of lubrication within the aircon pump and will overtime result in the compressor shaft snapping, but unfortunately the problem gets worse. Once the aircon pump is damaged, the rubbing of the broken shaft causes very fine metal particles to break off, also known as swarf. The swarf then infiltrates the entire air conditioning system and blocks up pipes, valves and filters.

Due to the nature of this air conditioning compressor failure, it won’t be a simple task to just replace the pump and refill the aircon gas. The aircon expansion valve (TXV Valve) and dryer unit will definitely need to be replaced as they get blocked up in all cases. You will also be required to flush the air conditioning system for at least 4 hours to ensure that all residue of swarf is removed prior to fitting the new parts.
