The Volkswagen Passat EGR Valve can be very problematic because these cars suffer from Turbo failures. Once the turbocharger has failed, oil is passed through the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve and gunks up the valve flap causing a sticky EGR valve. As vehicles age, wear & tear will cause oil to weep through the oil seals of a turbocharger and not necessarily become a fault with the unit as such but can cause faults with the EGR unit as this oil builds up. When the EGR valve does get sticky, then it will eventually cause problems which can lead to mechanical failure of the EGR valve and other components.

Common VW Passat EGR Valve Problems

  • Loss Of Power
  • Smoke On Acceleration
  • Fluttering On Acceleration
  • Poor Fuel Economy
  • Hesitation & Missfire
  • EGR Flap Position Faults
  • EGR Related Fault Codes
  • Engine Management Light On
  • Limp Mode / Safe Mode

These are the most common faults we’ve come across on the VW Passat 1.9TDi with EGR problems, there are various fault codes that are related to EGR problems such as P0401, P0402 & P0403 etc. Replacing the EGR valve can be very costly and having it removed and cleaned every few months is not only expensive but time consuming – it will mean having your vehicle off road for half a day each time you have the EGR valve removed for cleaning. – Cleaning the EGR valve will not cure all EGR problems.

What we offer is a complete EGR Removal service and we don’t mean blanking the EGR off either. Most garages and motor enthusiasts suggest using Blanking plates to blank off the EGR valve. This will stop the turbocharger from passing oil up and stop the EGR from recirculating the gasses – as though it weren’t even fitted. The concept of this idea is perfect, however the reality is quite different.

Blanking the EGR valve will most definitely cause the Engine Management light to appear causing Emissions faults as well as others. Below we’ve list some of the most common symptoms you can expect from blanking your Volkswagen Passat EGR Valve:

  • Sluggish In Low RPM
  • Down In Power & Loss Of MPG
  • Poor Throttle Response
  • Limp Mode / Safe Mode
  • Engine Management Light On
  • Emissions Workshop Fault

What we offer is a very different approach to this on going EGR problem that motorists experience. We download and reprogram the Engine’s ECU to completely disable the EGR valve and delete all EGR related data strings. By doing so, we can tell the ECU to close the flap on the EGR valve as it is no longer required – making it no longer necessary to fit EGR Blanking Plates!

We will then program the ECU to disable all EGR values and fine-tune the engine to compensate for the vehicle no longer having an EGR valve fitted – this will result in both an increase in power & fuel economy and peace of mind that you will not experience any EGR related faults ever again. No engine management light, no Limp mode, no Emissions workshop faults and no smoking problems.

After we have successfully carried out the EGR Removal service on your Volkswagen Passat, you can expect the following benefits:

  • Increased Throttle Response
  • More Power & Better Performance
  • Gains Of +10-15mpg In Fuel Economy
  • No More EGR Related Faults
  • No Need To Replace Or Repair – Ever!

Our EGR Removal service will also safeguard the engine and heavily reduce carbon build-up in the engine. All our EGR Removal sessions are 100% completely reversible and come with a Lifetime warranty.

Your vehicle could be smoking for many reasons – you first need to identify whether it is oil or diesel smoke. You can then begin to rule out possibilities and diagnose the root cause of the problem. We would need more information to assist you – I have sent you an email with some information to help you, if you could come back to me in the email I will try to assist you further.

    • Hi Chas

      Thanks for the enquiry,

It may be just a sticky valve, which may need cleaning as a short term fix but we can certainly help by deleting the EGR permanently to stop the fault coming back. We have sent you an email with full information and pricing.
