Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi Electronic Turbo Actuator Repairs
Ford Mondeo Electronic Turbo Actuator Problems
The Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi between 2001 – 2007 is fitted with an electronic turbo actuator to control the flow and output of the turbocharger. It is accurately controlled by the Engine ECU and can be tuned to increase the performance and economy of the vehicle. The electric turbo actuator is a very common failing part and can be an expensive repair when it fails as the dealer will be quoting to replace the complete turbocharger.
Ford Mondeo Turbo Actuator Common Faults
Most common symptoms when the Ford Mondeo electronic turbo actuator fails is the glow plug light will start flashing and the engine will go into “Limp Mode” to restrict the performance – a safety feature installed in the ECU to avoid any further damage. There will also be fault codes stored in the ECU relating to the turbo actuator or turbo performance. Some other common faults include:
- Loss of power under acceleration
- Intermittent loss of power under acceleration
- Smoking on acceleration
- Fault codes pointing to turbo actuator
- “Charge Air Pressure Control” fault
- Actuator arm not moving
- Fault Code: P132A – Turbo Actuator Vane
- Fault Code: P132B – Turbo Boost Control ‘A’ Performance
- Limp mode
- Flashing glow plug light
A replacement turbo can cost upwards of £1000 and the actuator is not sold separately from the dealers. Used parts are not recommended because they will require programming and eventually end up having the same common fault as they are all failing at some point or another.
Some common part numbers related to this type of unit include the following.
Common Part Numbers | Common Part Numbers |
---|---|
G149 | G221 |

Hi could you tell me if the code P132b is defintley to do with the electronc actuator or sticky turbo vanes?. I had this code once or twice over 4 week period. But my car is idling lumpy and and smoking from exhaust and i also have a Misfire if i accelrate lightly? My car is a mondeo st tdci 2.2.
Hi David
Thanks for the enquiry,
The P132B fault code typically relates to the failure of the turbo actuator and it is a very common problem. The problem can start with sticky vanes, which would then take out the actuator but it doesn’t necessarily have to fail that way. We can test both the turbo and the actuator if you’re unsure.
I have sent you an email with full information and pricing. If you have any questions, please respond to the email and we’ll be happy to assist you.
