Can a Lancia still be used on the road after DPF removal?

Not lawfully. Taking a Lancia on a public road without its filter breaches the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations, a missing DPF became an automatic MOT fail in February 2014, and fines go up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle. That is why our Lancia removals are limited to motorsport and off-road vehicles.

Why does my Lancia’s DPF light keep coming back?

Because each regeneration is ending before the soot has gone. The filter needs a sustained stretch of hot exhaust to burn clean, and a car used for short or town trips rarely gives it one. A light that returns within days usually means the filter is fuller each time, or that something upstream is adding soot faster than it can burn. Is it the DPF or the pressure sensor on my Lancia?

It can be either, which is why the sensor is proved before the filter is condemned. P2452 and P2453 are faults in the differential pressure sensor’s own circuit or signal, and a false reading can make a healthy filter look blocked. Can a blocked Lancia DPF damage anything else?

Yes, if it is left. Exhaust gas that cannot get through the filter builds back-pressure, and that pressure finds the weakest point upstream, typically the turbocharger or the EGR valve. Injector and engine seal leaks can follow, which is why a persistent DPF warning deserves a diagnosis rather than another week of driving.
