Have you had trouble with your Volkswagen losing power? Or does it start jerking in and out of gears? Did you know that these could be symptoms of a faulty Automatic Transmission Control Unit, or more commonly known as the Gearbox ECU? This problem can be diagnosed on all gearbox types, automatic or semi-automatic, S-Tronic or Mechatronic, a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) or a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), and can occasionally be repaired once the problem has been identified with a simple gearbox oil change or a software update, however if it is a Transmission Control Module (TCM) fault, this will either need to be repaired or replaced.

Common Volkswagen (VW) DSG / CVT Transmission Controller Concerns
There have been a number of common faults reported to us by customers in the past regarding the DSG/CVT Transmission Controllers, and in most occasions the faults can be rectified. General Part Numbers for Volkswagen (VW) Transmission Control Unit (TCU)
If you have done your research, you will be aware that to replace or repair a faulty DSG Gearbox ECU from local dealers can cost in the excess of £1000 + VAT, and this will not include any programming which you will have to pay extra for. It will generally come with a standard 12 Month Warranty, unless of course it is irreparable, in which case you may be offered to replace your DSG/CVT Transmission ECU with a second-hand used part which will only come with a 30-90 day limited warranty. Again, you will still need to pay extra for programming!

If you are an owner of a faulty DSG Gearbox ECU, you will be aware that the costs of replacing the unit from local dealers are well in the excess of £1000 + VAT. This price will not include programming, which you will have to pay extra for, and it will generally only come with a standard 12 Month Warranty. If you’re offered the option of a second-hand used part to replace your DSG/CVT Transmission ECU, then this will only come with a 30-90 day limited warranty, and again, will require programming at an extra cost.

Audi DSG / CVT Transmission Control Module Problems + Repairs
The automatic transmission control module (TCM) fitted to Audi vehicles are known as common failing parts, causing several kinds of transmission related issues. From automatics to semi-automatics, mechatronic, multitronic and S-Tronic to DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) vehicles – all are known to be affected.

Occasionally these faults can be rectified by a simple Gearbox Oil change or software update, however, most generally the fault is caused by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or more commonly known as the Gearbox ECU.

Common Audi DSG Transmission Control Module Problems
There are many faults that can be caused by a failed Transmission Control Unit (TCU). Faults can be intermittent or sometimes become progressively worse, all depending on the nature of the problem, however, they can be mostly repaired. Seat DSG/CVT Transmission Control Unit Issues + Repairs
Are you having issues with your Seat Automatic Transmission Unit? Did you know that the automatic transmission fitted to Seat’s is known to become faulty? Whether it’s an automatic or semi-automatic, mechatronic or S-Tronic, a DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) or a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), they are all known to have this issue.

Sometimes these faults can be repaired by a simple software update or a gearbox oil change, but unfortunately, this is not always possible and generally it is due to the fault in the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or more commonly known as the Gearbox ECU.

General DSG / CVT Transmission Controller Issues
So if your car has been suffering from the above, you may have noticed that the faults can sometimes be intermittent, however it starts to get progressively worse depending on the nature of the problem. This is due to faults that have been caused by a failed Transmission Control Module (TCM), and occasionally these can be repaired. General Part Numbers for Seat Transmission Control Unit (TCU)
If you have researched the costs of replacing your DSG Gearbox ECU when it becomes faulty, you will probably be aware that quotes from local dealers are in the excess of £1000 + VAT, which would then also require programming at an extra cost. A standard 12 Month Warranty will also come with your new replacement part or you will have the option to replace the DSG / CVT Transmission ECU with a second-hand used part with a 30-90 day limited warranty. Again this will require programming/coding at an additional cost.

Suzuki Common ABS Pump (ESP Fault) – Brake Pressure Sensor Switch Failure

Suzuki Brake Pressure Sensor Problems
The MK60 ATE Teves ABS pump is fitted to a wide variety of vehicles from all makes of manufacture and includes the Suzuki group vehicles. This type of ABS pump has an internal brake pressure sensor manufactured inside the unit is commonly known for it’s pressure sensor fault and is very expensive to replace. Earlier ABS pumps never had this fault because the pressure sensor was never before fitted inside the ABS pump – but these new type of ABS units are failing all day long and it’s a major design fault with all internal pressure sensor units.

How To Detect The Suzuki Brake Pressure Sensor Fault
When the pressure sensor has failed on the Suzuki ABS system, the traction control light will be illuminated and sometimes the ABS light as well. The traction control (ESP) button may also be illuminated and pressing the button will have no affect.

C1028 – Brake pressure Sensor Circuit defective. – Present.

If your Suzuki has the dreaded Brake Pressure Sensor fault then you probably already have had a scary quote from a dealer of £1200+. Even second hand used parts are not cheap and require additional coding / programming. Neither of these options are recommended because it doesn’t fix the root cause of the problem and you will be just waiting on the day for it to fail again.

Instead of just replacing the unit with a like-for-like part or repairing the ABS with a standard like-for-like pressure sensor as most workshops are currently offering. Why Modify The Unit? – Why Not Just Replace The Damaged Part?
All cars prior to the MK60 ATE ABS unit had the pressure sensor fitted externally and never failed.

If we fit a standard part inside the pump it will still have the design fault it was manufactured with and although we can put a warranty on the unit and replace the sensor each time it fails (because they are cheap as chips to buy) you will still be left inconvenienced by having to remove the unit each time it fails and pay for the labour each time. We rework the original design and ensure that our modified units are rebuilt to last.

The Easytronic Gearbox Clutch Actuator is a very common failing part and the same common failing part has been found fitted to the entire Vauxhall range of Easytronic vehicles. The unit is coded to the vehicle so replacing it with a used second-hand part is not really an option without paying additional coding / programming charges at the dealers.

Common Easytronic Transmission Clutch Actuator Problems

The clutch actuator are manufactured with a variety of part numbers, some of which are interchangeable and some which aren’t. Two identical vehicles can have clutch actuators with different part numbers making them not interchangeable and so there is always this risk when buying second hand used parts. Once the clutch actuator fails, your local dealer will quote you in excess of £700 +VAT, Labour and Programming. The new replacement unit will only come with a standard 12 month warranty. Second hand (used) parts will be a bit cheaper but will also require coding / programming using dealer level equipment at an additional cost and come with a limited 30-90 day warranty. Some dealers will not offer to code second hand used parts and urge you to buy a brand new part.

If you’ve got a Ford Transit van, Transit Connect or even the Ford Tourneo Connect van from 2000 – 2006 then it may well be fitted with the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump, which I’m afraid to say is a very common failing part. We see several of these units being sent in to us each week for repair, so if your Ford Diesel Pump has developed then you’ve come to the right place.

This particular diesel pump is designed with the Electronic Control Module, namely the Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) unit mounted to the top of the diesel pump with wires fixed into the unit, making it difficult to separate. A majority of the time it is the EDC unit which fails on these diesel pumps and not the mechanical components themselves.

The Bosch EDC module has been manufactured using Hybrid technology and is extremely delicate. Just opening the unit without experience can cause damage and some of the main components are very susceptible to shock and vibration.

Common Ford Transit / Tourneo Van Problems + Symptoms
Faults relating to the diesel pump EDC failure on Ford Transit and Tourneo vans can vary quite a bit depending on how the unit has failed. You could have just a slight misfire caused by a faulty diesel pump or a complete non-starter. Below we’ve listed the most common faults we’ve found with the
