Citroen Instrument Cluster & Dashboard Repair
Summary: A failed Citroen dashboard is almost always one failed part on the cluster’s circuit board — a display bond, a gauge motor, a lighting circuit — rather than a unit fit only for scrap. This page covers the fault groups we see across the Citroen range, the models we handle, and how the mail-in repair works.
Citroen shares its cluster designs widely. The unit behind a C1’s lens belongs to the same family as the Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo; the Relay’s comes from the platform it shares with the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer. Fault patterns travel with the hardware rather than the badge, which is why the right repair depends on which board is in the car and not on the model name alone. Citroen is one make within our wider instrument cluster repair service.
Citroen cluster faults, grouped by the part that failed
Almost every Citroen dashboard fault we see falls into one of six groups. Which group yours belongs to is what tells us whether the problem is the display, a gauge motor, the lighting circuit or the board itself.
- Segments missing from the central display. The bond between display panel and board degrades, so the mileage line or trip readout goes patchy while the rest of the panel still works.
- A gauge that no longer tells the truth. Speed, revs, fuel and temperature each have a stepper motor behind them; when one fails the needle sticks, drifts, or reads high or low against reality.
- Dim dials, dead tell-tales, silent indicators. The LEDs lighting the dial faces and the warning symbols share circuits — and on some units so does the indicator chime, which is why they tend to go together.
- Nothing at all on ignition. Vibration cracks solder joints and the board’s power-supply section fails; the panel does not wake, usually without warning.
- The cluster stops talking to the car. It sits on the vehicle network alongside the BSI, so a communication fault can throw warnings from modules that are themselves healthy.
- A crank with no start. On PSA vehicles the cluster forms part of the immobiliser chain, so a fault inside it can present as an engine problem.
Treat a dark or partial panel as a diagnostic job, not an inconvenience. The cluster is the only place the car shows an ABS, airbag or brake-system warning, and a panel that cannot light those lamps cannot warn you. Repairing it restores the reporting — it does not fix whatever a lamp was reporting on.
Which Citroen dashboards we handle
We bench test and repair Citroen clusters across the range — C1, C2, C3, C4, C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso, C5, C8, Berlingo, Nemo, Dispatch and Relay, along with DS3, DS4 and DS5 where the cluster design is shared.
One model has a page to itself. If yours is a C4 Picasso, start there:
These have a repair listing of their own:
Not listed? Tell us the model, build year and what the panel is doing, and we will confirm which unit to send before you take anything apart.
How a Citroen instrument cluster repair runs
- Tell us what the panel is doing
Model, build year, the symptom, and any fault codes a garage has already pulled off the car.
- Post the cluster in
Remove it and send it to the workshop. The Citroen stays on your drive.
- Bench test, then board-level repair
We power the unit on in-house Hardware-in-the-Loop rigs that reproduce real heat, vibration and load, then replace the failed components at circuit level in a cleanroom-standard, ESD-safe workshop — reinforcing the known weak points rather than rebuilding to a specification that has already failed once.
- Back to you, ready to refit
Your own unit returns, in most cases plug and play with no coding required, under a lifetime, unlimited-mileage warranty.
Citroen dashboard questions we are asked most
Can a Citroen cluster be repaired rather than replaced?
Usually. The failure is normally one component on the board — a gauge motor, a display bond, an LED circuit, a cracked joint — and replacing it returns the panel to full function.
Will my mileage and immobiliser data survive the repair?
Yes. We repair the unit you send, so the mileage, VIN and coded data already held on it stay on it. Recorded mileage is not altered.
Warning lamps stay lit after I switch off — is that the cluster?
Usually, and it is a familiar pattern on Relay-based vans and motorhomes. Where lamps stay lit or the whole panel dims, the fault sits in the cluster’s own illumination circuit rather than the systems those lamps report on.
The centre display has gone but the gauges still work — one fault or two?
One, almost always. The display panel fails independently of the stepper motors driving the needles, which is why a blank screen and healthy gauges sit side by side.
If you have already narrowed it to the cluster, the listings above are the shortest route in. If you have not — a lamp behaving oddly can come from the system it reports on rather than the panel showing it — give us the symptom first and let us work out which unit is at fault.

Your own cluster back, with its own data intact
Send the model, build year and the symptom through the repair form. Not yet certain the cluster is at fault? Describe what the dashboard is doing and we will narrow it down first.
