DPF Light On

Our Permanent Solution To a Blocked DPF + DPF Related DTC Fault Codes

DPF Light OnThe Costly DPF System Counters Diesel Economy
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system is definitely the most problematic part fitted to almost all new diesel vehicles. The DPF filter sits in the exhaust and is designed to trap diesel particles (particulate soot matter) and stop it from escaping out the back of the exhaust and entering into our atmosphere. Although a great concept, the problems that come with the DPF system far outweigh the benefits and on some vehicles a replacement DPF filter from the dealers can cost you in excess of £3000!

That was not a typo error, our customer with a 2007 Mazda 6 2.0D was quoted £3,300.00 from his local dealer to have the filter replaced and programmed.

Typical Problems Related to a Blocked DPF Filter

  • Loss Of Power / No Throttle Response
  • Warning Lights On Dash
  • Poor Fuel Consumption
  • Hard To Start & Slow Pick-Up In Speed
  • Limp Mode (Won’t Rev Over 3000RPM)
  • Engine Starts & Cuts Out
  • Engine Fails To Start
  • Turbocharger Faults
  • EGR Faults
  • Injector Leak
  • Engine Seals Leaking
  • Complete Engine Failure

There are many fault codes associated with the DPF system. Some fault codes are vehicle/manufacturer specific and others are used across all manufacturers. Officially Europes first DPF Removal specialists, we are by far the most knowledgeable DPF specialists in the country and have been working on correcting DPF problems on diesel vehicles since 2007. Below we have compiled an extensive database of DPF related DTC Fault Codes to help you confirm the DPF faults.

Bosch VP44 (PSG5) Diesel Pump Problems

Ford Fiesta / Focus / Mondeo Diesel Pump EDC Repairs

Bosch VP44 (PSG5) Diesel Pump ProblemsFord Fiesta / Focus / Mondeo Diesel Pump EDC Repairs
The Bosch VP44 (PSG5) Diesel Pump is a very common failing part and found fitted to a variety of vehicles including the Ford range of Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo’s manufactured between 2000 and 2005. This particular design has the Diesel Pump ECU / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control Unit) mounted to the top of the hydraulic / mechanical diesel pump unit.

Inside the EDC Bosch is using hybrid technology to control the pressure and flow of the diesel pump but with it being mounted to the top of the mechanical unit it is subjected to heat and vibration which are too common known causes of premature failure for internal components.

Common EDC Failure Problems / Symptoms
The EDC can fail in many ways and the fault symptoms can vary quite a bit from having just the engine light illuminated on the dashboard to breaking down and having a complete non-starter. Below we’ve listed some of the common faults we’ve seen from customers sending EDC units in for repair.

  • Struggling to Start
  • Non-Starter
  • Engine Light On
  • Loss of Power
  • Running Rough
  • Stored Fault Codes

If your Diesel Pump EDC has failed then your local dealer will probably be quoting you for a very expensive replacement of the complete unit with additional costs for labour and coding / programming. This is because the EDC unit is not available to purchase as a separate part to the Diesel Pump. The new replacement part will require coding and will only come with a limited 12 month warranty. The alternative option would be to replace your diesel pump with a second-hand used part for much less but the unit will come with a limited 30-90 day warranty and also require coding / programming.

Bosch VP44 EDC ProblemsOur Ford Diesel Pump EDC Repair Service
We are able to fully bench test + repair the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump Controller (EDC). We use new genuine OEM components when rebuilding the Diesel Pump EDC to ensure each and every EDC Repair unit meets & exceeds OE specifications. Our rebuilt EDC units are fully plug & play, meaning no coding / programming is required and all remanufactured units come completed with our LIFETIME warranty.

Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump RebuildsNote: The Bosch VP44 Electronic Diesel Control unit uses hybrid technology and can be damaged very easily so it is advised NOT to try a DIY repair. These units should only be opened by experienced specialists with extensive knowledge in hybrid EDC technology.

Removing the EDC unit can be very involved and we do offer a professional fitting service at our Diesel Pump Repair Workshop if required. Below is an application list which shows all the known vehicles fitted with this part and part numbers associated with this part. If you’re vehicle is not listed or you’re unsure, give us a call on 0203 815 9441.

Audi / Seat / Skoda / VW – Multitronic DSG / CVT Transmission Controller (TCM / TCU) Repairs

S-Tronic TCU RepairsDSG / CVT Transmission Control Module Problems + Repairs
The automatic transmission fitted to VAG group vehicles, namely Audi / Seat / Skoda and Volkswagen (VW) are very commonly known for becoming faulty and causing all sorts of transmission related problems. All vehicles are affected from automatics to semi-automatics.. from Mechatronic, Multitronic and S-Tronic right down to DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) vehicles.

Sometimes these faults can be corrected by a simple Gearbox oil change or software update but more commonly the fault is caused by the Transmission Control Module (TCM), also known as the Gearbox ECU.

Common DSG / CVT Transmission Controller Problems
A failed Transmission Control Unit (TCU) can cause a wide number of faults. Some faults can be intermittent or become progressively worse depending on the nature of the fault but can almost always be repaired. Below we have listed some of the most common faults our customers have experienced with their failed DSG / CVT Transmission Controllers.

  • “PRNDS” Light Flashing
  • Gearbox Going In Neutral
  • Gearbox Stops Working When Hot
  • Fail-Safe (Limp Mode)
  • Loss of Power
  • Jerking In / Out of Gears
  • Loss of Reverse Gear
  • Not Going Into Gear

Common TCM Related DTC Fault Codes
A problematic DSG controller may not bring up any warning lights or fault codes so it’s not always as easy to locate the problem. We have however compiled a small list of common DTC fault codes below which we have found to be linked to DSG Transmission Control Unit problems.

Vauxhall Brake Pressure Sensor Problems

Vauxhall / Opel Common ABS Pump (ESP Fault) – Brake Pressure Sensor Switch Failure

Vauxhall Brake Pressure Sensor ProblemsVauxhall / Opel Brake Pressure Sensor – ESP Fault
If you have a modern Vauxhall built after 2004 then there is a good chance your vehicle is fitted with the common failing MK60 ATE ABS pump. Earlier vehicles would have an early version of the ABS pump where the Brake Pressure Sensor is mounted externally either on the side of the ABS pump, side of the brake master cylinder, on the brake servo or along the feed pipe between the master cylinder and ABS pump itself. However, the MK60 ATE ABS pump is manufactured with the brake pressure sensor installed internally and is such a common failure that we are seeing several of these units in our workshop daily for repair and exchange.

How To Detect A Brake Pressure Sensor Failure / ESP Fault?
When the brake pressure sensor has failed, the fault symptoms can vary from vehicle to vehicle but generally speaking you will have the ESP / Traction light illuminated on the dash. The traction light will be the yellow car with skid marks below it. You may also have the ABS light and handbrake light illuminated on the dash and if you have an ESP button, the light on the button may be illuminated and pressing the button will have no affect.

Common DTC Fault Code Associated With This Fault
C0131 – Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction (00) – Present.

Common Vauxhalls Affected By The Brake Pressure Sensor Fault
This is an industry-wide fault which affects almost all makes of vehicles as almost all of them are being fitted with this type of ABS pump unit. Below you can see a short list of Vauxhalls which we have found to be affected by the common Brake Pressure Sensor ESP Fault.

Common Vauxhall ABS Pump Part Numbers Affected
There will be 100s of part numbers affected by this common type of failure and below we have listed the most common part numbers which are flagging up each week from units being sent in to us. Don’t worry if you’re part number isn’t listed, we can repair all of them but if you’re unsure, give us a call on 0203 815 9441 with your part number to confirm.

If you have a brake pressure sensor fault then chances are your local dealer will advise on a brand new replacement part at a very high cost. The new replacement part will also require coding / programming at an additional cost and come with a limited 12 month warranty. This new part will be a like-for-like part which will have the same design fault as the original unit in your vehicle – so you can expect it will fail again in the future.

Most workshops may even advise replacing the unit with a cheap second-hand used part but that will also require coding / programming at additional costs and come with a limited 30-90 day warranty.

I Have This Fault – What Are My Options With SINSPEED?
We offer a great alternative by offering to repair / exchange your faulty ABS pump with our superseded redesigned units which are being offered with modified pressure sensors. The units we offer are guaranteed to last the lifetime of the vehicle (as they should) and that is why we offer them with a LIFETIME warranty. The best part is our units will NOT require any coding or programming.

We also offer a professional diagnosis and fitting service if required.

Why Modify The Unit? – Why Not Just Replace The Damaged Part?
All other cars without the MK60 ATE ABS Control Module have the Brake Pressure Sensor fitted externally to the ABS Pump and guess what, they never fail!

Fitting the Brake Pressure Sensor inside in the ABS Pump internally is a new space-saving idea which has obviously gone horribly wrong because almost all makes of vehicles worldwide affected by the common failing internal sensor. Dealerships are yet to recover fully from the outbreak of failing units and no modification has yet been officially released. Replacing the sensor with a like-for-like part may fix the fault temporarily but it doesn’t solve the root cause of the problem and you can be sure the fault will come back. In order to safe-guard the future of your ABS unit and efficiently repair the unit, we have modified the ABS pump to match it’s predecessors and fitted an external pressure sensor. If the external pressure sensor ever did fail in future for whatever reason, it would be easy enough to buy a sensor and replace it – not having to replace your entire ABS pump each time.

SAFETY WARNING!!
There have been rumours of people and/or companies trying to repair these units and in some cases imitate our work. Please understand that although the ESP system is not absolutely crucial, modifying the ABS controller / pump in any way (without superior extensive knowledge) in the technology of advanced braking systems and electronic control modules, you will be risking the life of others. Please do not attempt to repair these units yourself and please do not offer such services to trade or the general public. We have been in business since 1972 as a group company and all our parts, services are fully tested before leaving the workshop. All units are thoroughly tested on specific specialist equipment to ensure maximum quality. Our ESP Fault Modifications come fully approved and as far as we’re aware, there is no other company out there that can successfully repair these units and completely remove the defective state.

If you have a vehicle with the Brake Pressure Sensor ESP Fault then give us a call on 0203 815 9441.

ABS ESP "Brake Pressure Sensor" Problems

Citroen, Peugeot + Renault Common ABS Pump (ESP Fault) – Brake Pressure Sensor Switch Failure

ABS ESP "Brake Pressure Sensor" ProblemsCommon Citroen, Peugeot + Renault ESP Fault
The common ‘Brake Pressure Sensor’ fault has famously affected almost all Makes of vehicles including Citroen, Peugeot and Renault. On earlier models the brake pressure sensor was mounted externally on the ABS pump or near the brake master cylinder / brake servo. The external sensor was much more reliable but if the sensor did ever fail, a replacement could be purchased from dealers and parts factors at a very low cost. Newer ABS pumps (namely the ATE MK60 ABS Pump and later) are now being manufactured with the brake pressure sensor installed internally and it’s not a case of if, but when it fails – there is no option to buy and replace the sensor unit. Dealerships will require you to purchase a complete new ABS pump at a very high price.

How To Tell If You Have The “Brake Pressure Sensor” ESP Fault
If you have got the brake pressure sensor ESP fault with your car then you will notice that the ESP button will be illuminated or the ESP light will be lit on the dash and pressing the ESP button will have no affect. The ABS light may also be illuminated and when you have a diagnostic machine plugged into the vehicle, it will bring a fault code similar to below:

The ABS pump will have failed due to a common known manufacturing defect and replacing it with a like for like new or used part may rectify the fault temporarily but you can expect it to fail again in the near future.

There is also the option of purchasing a standard rebuilt part or a repair kit as some parts factors are now offering. This is simply a repair to the existing part by replacing the sensor with a like-for-like part.. It is in no way a superseded part and will carry the same design fault.

Why You Should Choose Sinspeed To Replace / Remanufacture Your ABS Module
What we offer is very different. We remanufacture the ABS pump, bypass the internal pressure switch and fit our very own custom manufactured external brake pressure sensor and calibrate it to completely eliminate the possibility of a repeat failure. This is the only way to remove all risks of the unit failing again and this is why we are confident enough to offer our units with a LIFETIME warranty.

What’s more our units are now Self-Calibrating so even if you purchase an exchange part from us, the ABS unit we send to you will self-calibrate to your vehicle and will not require programming – Guaranteed!

SAFETY WARNING!!
There are rumours of people and/or companies trying to repair the ABS units and in some cases imitate our work by modifying them. Please understand that although the ESP system is not absolutely crucial, modifying the ABS controller/pump in any way (without superior extensive knowledge) in the technology of advanced braking systems and electronic control modules, you will be risking the life of others. Please do not attempt to repair these units yourself and please do not offer such services to trade or the general public. We have been in business since 1972 as a group company and all our parts & services are fully tested before leaving the workshop. All units are thoroughly tested on specific specialist equipment to ensure maximum quality. Our ESP Fault Modifications come fully approved and as far as we’re aware, there is no other company out there that can successfully repair these units and completely remove the defective state.

If you have a Citroen, Peugeot or Renault with an ABS fault, then email or call us today on 0203 815 9441 for an instant quote.

Bosch 5.3 ABS / ESP Controller ECU Testing

Bosch 5.3 ABS / ESP Pump Module Faults – Testing & Repairs

Bosch 5.3 ABS / ESP Pump TestingBosch 5.3 ABS / ESP Pump Control Module Problems
The Bosch 5.3 ABS Pump Controller also controls the traction control (ESP) system and is a very common failing part and found fitted to a wide range of vehicles from 1994 to 2006. The ABS Pump has many names and is often referred to as: ABS Pump, ABS ECU, ABS Module, ABS Controller, ESP Pump, ESP ECU, ESP Module and ESP Controller – In instances like this when the ABS / ESP systems are combined, they are all referring to the same one unit.

The Bosch 5.3 ABS Controller has an external power source to the ABS pump motor which is mounted on top of the hydraulic valve block. The ABS unit has since been upgraded on newer vehicles with the Bosch 5.7 and now the Bosch 8.0 ABS pump which has an internal power source to feed power up to the ABS pump motor.

Below is a list of the common vehicles we’ve found fitted with the Bosch 5.3 ABS pump unit.

Common Bosch 5.3 ABS Pump Faults
Faults with this type of unit can very quite a bit from vehicle to vehicle and it all depends on how the unit has failed. We’ve been repairing these units for so long now we’ve practically seen every type of fault possible with Bosch ABS controllers and below are just some of the most common faults we’ve seen when the ABS pump fails:

  • ABS Light On
  • Traction Light On
  • Handbrake Light On
  • Steering Light On
  • Speedo Not Working
  • Wheel Speed Sensor Faults
  • No Communication via OBD
  • Pressure Sensor Faults
  • Brakes Juddering

When the ABS unit has failed, some dealers and workshops will advise on a new replacement part which will come with a 12 month warranty but the cost of new parts can be very expensive and will need programming at an additional cost. Second hand used ABS controllers are not recommended because they come with a limited 30-90 day warranty and being such a common failing part there is no real guarantee how long it will last – also the second hand used part will also require reprogramming at an additional cost.
