Mitsubishi Instrument Cluster Repair for the Shogun
Summary: We repair the instrument cluster from the 2006-onward Mitsubishi Shogun, the unit that carries every gauge, the display and the warning lamps. Six ways a Shogun cluster gives out
Because one unit runs the entire dash, a single weakness can take several readings with it. These are the faults Shogun owners send us:
- Total blackout. Speedometer, rev counter, odometer, temperature and fuel gauges go dark together, and the display with them.
- Resetting while driving. The dash restarts itself mid-journey.
- Lost illumination. Lighting fails across the dials, leaving them hard to read after dark.
- A fading display. It dims, turns pixelated or stops showing anything.
- Gauges out of step. Needles read incorrectly or stop responding.
- Power that comes and goes. The cluster cuts out for a while, then returns.
None of this starts with a single event. Heat from the dash, vibration from the road and constant electrical load wear the cluster down, and a fault that only appears now and then can become one that stays.
Fuse, connection or cluster? Rule out the Shogun’s wiring first
Some Shogun dash faults start outside the cluster, and repairing the cluster would not cure them:
- The instrument fuse. A blown instrument fuse can take out the speedometer on its own.
- Connections. A poor connection at the cluster can make it cut out or behave erratically.
- Earths. Earth problems produce dash faults that look very like a failing cluster.
If all three are healthy and the dash still blacks out, resets or loses its display, the cluster itself is at fault. Unsure? Describe the symptoms on the repair form and an engineer will say whether a repair is the answer. Do not drive around it for long: every reset takes the speedometer and warning lamps away with no notice.

Questions Shogun owners put to us
My Shogun’s whole dash went dark at once. Has the cluster failed?
It is the fault most reported on this cluster, but check the instrument fuse and the connections first. If they are sound and the gauges and display stay dark, or keep dropping out, the cluster is the likely cause.
The dash resets itself while I am driving. Can I keep using the car?
Not for long. Each reset takes away your speedometer and warning lamps, and a cluster that drops out now and then can lose power for good. Have the earths checked, then send the cluster in.
Will a Mitsubishi dealer need to code the cluster after the repair?
Normally not. We repair the unit from your own Shogun rather than fitting a used one, so it keeps its mileage and security data and goes straight back in.
