The first sign on each Toyota cluster
Each Toyota cluster we list does a different job and tends to announce trouble its own way.
- Aygo (2005–2014): the arrows go first. Indicator tell-tales dim or stay dark while the indicators still flash, and the ticking and warning tones fall quiet. Seatbelt lamps can stop lighting, the speedometer needle may wander and the small display can lose segments.
- Auris Mk1 (2006–2012): the needles fall behind. Speedometer and rev counter lag, stick or drop to zero, the mileage and trip readout disappears, and panel lighting fails after dark. Fuel and temperature gauges can misread.
- Hilux (2005–2016): faults a working pick-up earns. The fuel gauge sticks at half or a quarter whatever is in the tank, the speedometer and mileage reading stop after a knock or pothole, and dial lighting fades.
All three can end with a cluster that will not wake with the ignition. A jolt may be when a fault appears, but heat, vibration and electrical load wear the unit down over every journey, and a Hilux on rough tracks gets more of all three.
Rule these out on the car, then send the cluster
Each Toyota has one quick check worth making first.
- Aygo. Check the stalk and the fuses; if both are sound and arrows or warnings are still missing, the cluster is the prime suspect.
- Auris. A tired battery or a corroded terminal can make a dash behave strangely, so have both checked. Erratic instruments on a healthy battery point back to the cluster.
- Hilux. When every gauge dies together, a blown fuse on the gauge circuit is a common culprit. A fuel reading that sticks can also come from the sender in the tank.
If the check is clean and the fault stays, send the cluster; if you are unsure, describe the symptom on the repair form and we will tell you. Do not live with it: a warning lamp that stays dark is a message the driver never receives.

Toyota cluster questions, answered
My Aygo’s indicators flash outside but no arrows show on the dash. Is that the cluster?
Very likely. Lamps flashing outside with nothing lit inside points to the cluster; nothing flashing anywhere points to the stalk or wiring. A missing tell-tale can also be picked up at an MOT.
My Hilux speedo and mileage stopped after a pothole. Is the cluster to blame?
It is a recognised Hilux cluster fault: vibration wears the unit, and a hard knock is often the moment it gives out. If every instrument died with it, check the gauge fuse first.
Is the Aygo cluster the same as the one in a C1 or 107?

My Auris mileage readout has gone blank. Will the repair change the recorded figure?
