A range of Fiat cars are fitted with the latest addition to the new Bosch ABS / ESP pump technology – the new Bosch 8.0 ABS / ESP pump module unit. This unit is a common failing part and is also fitted to a variety of other models including: Nissan, Citroen and Mercedes-Benz.

If the Bosch 8.0 ABS / ESP pump fails, most workshops generally advise on getting a new replacement unit, which comes with an expensive price tag. This unit can only be purchased from a main dealer and requires programming at an additional cost. It is not recommended to use second-hand used ABS pumps because this is such a common failing part and used parts come with a limited 30-90 day warranty and will still require coding an an additional cost.

The Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump (PSG5) is fitted to a wide range of vehicles and is a very common failing part. Due to the Hybrid technology behind the design of the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump we have found the unit will fail in very specific ways which will make the vehicle cut out and not start.

Bosch 5.7 ABS Pump TestingA common failing part on all Mercedes Sprinter vans from 2000 – 2006 is the Bosch 5.7 ABS Pump & module unit. There are many faults this unit can have but one very common fault is the C1401 fault code.

Fault Code: C1401 – Return Pump Fault

The above fault code is a very common problem with this type of ABS pump and will cause the ABS light to come on. It is an internal fault within the ABS pump and modulator unit and would normally require replacement at a very high cost.

The fault is due to components running at 70% maximum threshold for long periods and eventually become faulty. Replacing it with a like-for-like part will solve your problem short-term but expect the new part to develop the same fault in the future.
