Audi S3 8V MMI Navigation Unit Repair

A black MMI screen on the S3, with navigation, radio and phone all gone at once, usually means the navigation unit itself has stopped working. On the 8V this unit runs the core of the MMI — maps, media, phone and much of what appears on the screen — so when it fails, everything that depends on it goes too. Checks Before the S3’s Unit Comes Out

A blown fuse or low battery voltage can black out the MMI just as completely, so check those first. If only the maps are missing, the navigation SD card may be the cause, and a lost GPS position can come down to the aerial connection. Some faults are software and clear with a dealer update.
