Description
Summary: An Error message on the display, wandering needles, or a dash that flashes, then dies with the ABS and other lamps blinking, are the classic signs of a failing Ford Focus instrument cluster on the Mk1. We repair your own 1998–2004 unit, mileage and security data kept, with a lifetime warranty.

- Gauges or mileage readout dropping out
- Warning lamps flickering or stuck on
- Faults set off or cleared by bumps
- Instrument lighting fading
Cluster, loom or speed signal?
A Mk1’s road speed passes through a sensor and other modules before reaching the dash, and a wiring fault in the loom can upset the cluster too. If the fuses, connections and wiring check out, the cluster is the suspect.
What ages a Mk1 cluster
Each drive warms the cluster and cools it again, and road vibration travels into the dashboard, so the wear adds up over the years. A voltage swing from a weak battery can tip an ageing cluster over; faults begin intermittent, then stay.
Your unit, our bench, your dash again
Your garage frees the cluster from the dash and posts it on, so the Focus never leaves their forecourt. On the bench we watch your fault happen, repair it, then run the whole unit again before it travels back. Being your Focus’s own cluster, it normally needs no dealer recoding.
Mk1 Focus dash, explained
Why does my Focus dash fault come and go?
Wear of this kind rarely fails all at once. A Mk1 cluster can behave on one drive and drop out on the next bumpy mile, and that patchy stage usually ends with the fault staying for good. Note when it happens and mention it on the repair form; it helps us catch it on the bench.
Is an Error message on the display always the cluster?
It is one of the faults reported on first-generation Focus clusters. When the needles turn erratic at the same moment, the cluster rather than a sensor becomes the clear suspect.
