Description

Summary: Honda Jazz ABS pump faults on 2001–2009 cars show as an ABS light that never goes out and one of three codes: 51-1, 53-1 or 37-1. We repair the unit from your own Jazz and return it with lifetime warranty cover.

Jazz ABS reference

  • Generation: Honda Jazz, 2001–2009
  • Dashboard sign: ABS light on constantly
  • Honda codes: 51-1, 53-1, 37-1

Three codes and one stubborn light

  • ABS light lit constantly
  • 51-1: pump motor failure
  • 53-1: pump motor relay
  • 37-1: rear solenoid valve

Ordinary braking is unaffected; anti-lock assistance is not. In an emergency stop the Jazz brakes like a car without ABS, so have it dealt with soon.

Why the control side sets pump and valve codes

The pump, its relay and the rear valve answer to the unit’s built-in control electronics, which also check that each one responds. Heat, vibration, moisture and age wear that control side until it flags a pump, relay or valve fault every time the car starts.

One honest exception: a wheel-speed sensor, its cable or a damaged reluctor ring can also light the warning; the stored code shows which.

From your garage to our bench and back

Any garage can lift the unit out of the Jazz; once it arrives, the work is ours. Our Hardware-in-the-Loop rigs run it under simulated heat, vibration and load to reproduce the fault, and the repaired unit must come through the same run clean. You get your own unit back.

Jazz ABS: what people ask next

Will a new wheel sensor clear code 51-1?

Not on its own. 51-1 is logged against the pump motor, not a wheel sensor, so a new sensor leaves the code stored and the light on. Sensor codes call for a sensor; 51-1, 53-1 and 37-1 point to the ABS unit.

Does the brake system need bleeding after refitting?

Yes. Taking the ABS unit out opens the brake lines, so your garage bleeds the system once the repaired unit is back in, just as it would for any replacement unit. It is a standard part of the job.
