Description

The Peugeot 207 (2006–2014) is the model our electric power steering repairs are best known for — the 207’s column-mounted EPS is one of the most common power steering failures we handle. On the 207 the assist motor and its control electronics are built into the steering column, and it is those electronics that fail rather than the mechanical steering. When they break down the power assistance is lost and the wheel turns heavy. We repair the 207’s original EPS column and control module at component level and return your own unit, reinforcing the known weak points instead of fitting a replacement that will fail the same way.

The symptoms 207 owners report

The classic pattern on the 207 is assistance that comes and goes before failing for good — heavy one moment, normal the next — until the steering stays heavy permanently. It is at its most obvious when parking. The EPS warning light illuminates on the dashboard.

  • Total loss of power assistance — typically intermittent first, then permanent
  • Steering that becomes very heavy, hardest of all at parking speed
  • EPS warning light lit on the dashboard
  • Assistance dropping out and returning as the fault develops

These are the symptoms set out in our detailed worked example of Peugeot 207 power steering failure, which walks through how the fault develops and how it is put right.

The fault codes we see

  • P0606 — internal control-module fault
  • C1404 — electric power steering control fault
  • C1414 — power steering motor internal fault

All three are internal to the electronics inside the EPS column, not the rack, track rods or loom — an internal electronic component breakdown.

Where the failure actually lies

The weak points sit inside the column-mounted EPS unit’s control electronics and motor circuitry. As those internal components break down, the module can no longer drive the assist motor reliably and shuts the assistance off, which is why the steering goes heavy while the mechanical parts stay sound. Because the 207 uses this column unit so widely, it is a repair our engineers know intimately — and one where reinforcing the known weak points on repair genuinely reduces the chance of it recurring.

Repairing your 207 EPS column

Because the fault is electronic rather than mechanical, your 207’s original EPS column can be repaired at component level rather than replaced with a complete new assembly. This is a mail-in repair-and-return service: you send us the failing unit, our in-house engineers carry out circuit-level board repair on the control module and motor circuitry in a cleanroom-standard, ESD-safe workshop, and we return your own unit — repaired to meet or exceed OE specification with the weak points reinforced. Every unit is proven on our in-house Hardware-in-the-Loop rigs, which simulate real heat, vibration and load, and most remanufactured parts carry a lifetime, unlimited-mileage warranty. Keeping your original unit means the 207’s coding stays intact.

Once your order is placed, print the repair form, add your details and the symptoms the car has shown, and include it in the box with your EPS unit — or send it through to us ahead of the part. It ensures the repair begins the moment your unit reaches the bench. If you are not sure the column unit is the exact part your car needs, our wider electric power steering repair service covers the related steering components too.
