Replacement SD Cards for the Ford Satellite Navigation Systems

We have replacement SD Cards for all FORD Satellite Navigation Units

Update: We currently do not have any stock of these SD Cards. Like us on our Facebook page to find out when they come back in stock.

The Ford range satellite navigation systems with built-in DVD / CD-Player is a great addition to the vehicle with Bluetooth for hands-free calling as well. The satellite is pretty good if you’ve got one that does the postcode finder as well of course, otherwise, in my opinion, we’re better off with a simple £100 TomTom.

Anyway, one thing we’re getting calls for on these Fords is the SD Card that is read by the Sat-Nav units. The navigation roadmaps and data are all stored on a removable SD card. I guess they made it removable so you could connect it up to your pc/laptop and update it from time to time with the latest updates… it’s a good idea but it means that there’s always a possibility you’ll misplace, damage or just completely lose your SD card and if you do, well then buying a replacement from Ford is Not cheap at all.

I don’t see why they couldn’t have just wired in an onboard USB port so that you could hook up a laptop directly to the sat-nav system and update it that way, it would save us a lot of money because the possibility of losing your original SD card would be eliminated.

For those of you that have lost your SD card, we do now carry replacements for you in stock readily available. Give us a call, you’ll be pleasantly surprised that we can replace your SD card at a fraction of the cost. It’s always a good idea to keep a backup of your SD card in future.

A common fault for the Ford Satellite Navigation units is that the screens fail, rendering the unit useless. Fortunately enough we do carry out repairs on these so if you or somebody you know has this issue, then you can check out our blog on Ford Sat-Nav Systems Screen Failures.

Focus & Mondeo Sat-Nav Screens Repaired

The new Ford’s come with an optional upgrade MFD Multi Function Display Satellite Navigation System. They’re pretty cool, look great in the dash but at £1000-£1800 they don’t come cheap! – Some in fact don’t even do the basics like navigate via postcode which lets face it even the cheapest TomTom can handle. Others have had faults where the CD player won’t allow you to Pause/Stop a CD from playing without either making a call or turning the unit off completely.

The main problem which a lot of owners are facing is the screen failure which is common across the entire Ford range to which the units are fitted to. When they fail, Ford render the unit useless and advise that it must be replaced – if it’s replaced under warranty then you’re very lucky but otherwise it seems like a very costly replacement which makes us question whether or not it’s feasible.

Before parting with your hard earned cash, there is a very good chance that your existing unit can be repaired saving you a LOT of money. No programming, no hefty bill on a new unit and the best part is we now offer all repaired units with our Lifetime warranty – and it’s completely plug  & play when the unit is returned to you.

Ford Satellite Navigation Unit Repairs

What exactly do we do for you? – We’ll strip down your existing unit and connect it up to our uniquely purpose built test rig and bench test your unit to determine exactly where all the faults are. After the initial soak test, we will then carry out any necessary repairs, replacing any major components that are necessary including the liquid crystal display (LCD). Once the repairs have been carried out, the unit will be re-assembled and connected up to our rig for a final bench-test to determine full & complete functionality before returning it to you with our full Lifetime warranty.
There are various models of these navigational systems and even if you’re driving a different vehicle with similar issues, it’s possible that we can still help you.

Vauxhall Corsa and Rover MGF Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Repairs

Vauxhall Corsa and Rover MGF Steering Biased One Way

Vauxhall Corsa and Rover MGF Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Repairs

All new Vauxhall Corsa’s & Rover MGF’s are designed with EPS Systems installed (Electronic Power Steering), specifically electric columns with a motor & ECU attached and too often these units are failing in more than one way. Sometimes there is intermittent loss of power, sometimes complete loss of power but more commonly a feeling of biased steering – as though it’s heavy one way.

If you’ve got a Vauxhall Corsa or a Rover MGF with an electric steering column fitted and suffering from steering which is biased one way or heavy one way.. and you’ve taken it to your local garage or main dealer – then the likeliness is that you’ve been informed the steering column is at fault and needs replacing (a new unit is £500+ with programming) and a second hand unit doesn’t come with half the warranty and not much cheaper either.

Truth is, 99% of the time it doesn’t really need changing, it just  needs recalibrating but that’s not something your local garage can do (or the main dealer surprisingly). In fact, we’re taking on jobs from many local garages and have customers from the retail sector coming to us directly to save £100’s.

When you replace the steering column with a new one, it needs programming from the main dealers and that’s not cheap you’re looking at £500+ for a new column & programming and that doesn’t include labour for fitting either, however, it does come with a full 1 years warranty. A second hand unit isn’t any good at all, you’ll pay upwards of £150+ for the unit plus any labour costs to remove your old unit and fit the replacement.. and if you’re lucky, the most warranty you’ll get from any breakers yard will be 3 months (with condition of course!).

Bring you’re vehicle to us and we’ll rectify the fault in situe. It takes a couple of hours and we’ll recalibrate the electric column and rectify all faults – therefore there is no costs for replacement parts and absolute minimum labour costs. It’s by far the cheapest option.. and just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, we back our service fully by our no-quibble 1years warranty for peace of mind.

We suggest minimal driving whilst your steering is biased / heavy one way because if you drive like that for too long, you can permanently damage it in which case recalibration would be out of the equation and then a replacement part would be the only solution. We do carry replacement columns in stock but of course it’s far more expensive so we always suggest if you’ve acknowledged the fault then get in touch with us today so we can help you save money.

Sinspeed Super Slim HID Conversion Kit

Contact Us

If you’re looking to buy a HID Conversion Kit then head over to our online store!

If you’re unsure about what a HID conversion kit is exactly, you can read all about it here.

We thought we’d blog (or brag?) about the worlds slimmest digital ballast HID conversion kit. Newer cars are becoming more & more compact and the demand is clear, people want kits they can install with ease.

We love being in the spot light, the Sinspeed digital super slim HID Conversion Kit is by far the worlds slimmest conversion kit on the market.

Most conventional kits are quite chunky and some of the newer electronic kits are coming out smaller and thinner but digital is the way to go – because an electronic kit just won’t protect the cars electrical system the way a digital kit can.. avoid power surges and produce a consistently bright light with minimal power usage.

Our digital slim kits have been sold by the 1000’s, worldwide we sell not only to the retail sector but also to trade & many garages / companies are taking on our products to resell to consumers. Why do they choose our kits? Because they’re reliable, safe, quick & easy to install but most importantly because we back our products 100%

We offer a full (no-quibble) 12months warranty on all our kits. If in the unlikely event a kit was to fail, just return it and we’ll replace it right away.

If you’ve had a hid conversion kit in the past, there’s a high chance it was an electronic kit and a very good chance that it didn’t last long. Most people experience having to change the kit every 6-7 months because they just stop working.. sometimes it’s due to water damage but a majority of the time it’s bad manufacturing.

Our kits are designed to last the life time of the vehicle and only after 3-5yrs are you expected to change the bulbs.

Our super slim hid conversion kit will continue to dominate the market place and alongside it we’ve now launched the worlds first & only Dual Canbus kit.

VW Golf Mk5 Aircon Compressor

Volkswagen Golf Mk5 Air Conditioning Compressor Faults

Contact Us
It’s become very common for the Volkswagen Golf Mk5 air-con compressors to stop working. This is due to a lack of lubrication within the mechanical unit and basically a manufacturing defect. Although Volkswagen acknowledge this manufacturing defect, whether or not they’ll replace it under an extended warranty in goodwill is questionable. What we do know, however, is that an air conditioning compressor never just fails, there is always a root cause and in this case it’s unfortunate to be a costly manufacturing defect.

The lack of lubrication inside the air-con compressor unit causes metal fatigue and eventually leads to a broken compressor shaft distributing metal particles (better known as swarf) around the entire air conditioning system. Swarf will block up all the pipes, valves and filters in your system, blockages cause a pressure build up and the metal particles can damage the internals of mechanical units.

Unfortunately, in such instances you can’t simply replace the air-con compressor without flushing the system properly, we suggest flushing for 4hours minimum to ensure all metal particles are out of the system. That way, you can rest assured the new compressor when fitted, will not be contaminated and will not fail. I wouldn’t suggest buying a second-hand unit either because chances are it will be an original manufactured defective unit coming off another golf which just hasn’t failed yet.

We currently stock the latest superseded air-con compressors made by Sanden to overcome this problem, they are brand new units and do not carry the manufacturing defects meaning they should with due care last the lifetime of the vehicle.

Not only do we supply the part, but we offer the full service.. supplying, flushing, fitting and re-charging your air conditioning system and.. if you’re within our vicinity, we’ll even offer you a free collect & return service of your vehicle!

Garrett GT28/R Turbo Charger Common Failures

Here at Sinspeed, we can repair all types of turbo charger units. For an instant quote simply give us a call on 0203 815 9441. Below we’ll give you advice & information to help

protect your turbo charger for the future along with common faults.

The GT28 Garrett turbo charger is a unit fitted to sporty cars and is widely available as an upgrade unit for many cars such as one of my personal favourites, the Nissan Pulsar GTi-R. These turbo chargers can

produce a lot of horse power in their somewhat little shells, however, we’re finding that they are failing on a daily basis and 9/10 times it’s due to their respective owners not really knowing how a turbo charger works or even how to protect it against damage. Is it possible to damage your turbo charger from just casual driving? It certainly is! We’ll explain below.

Turbo chargers spin at over 25,000RPM and rely on oil to keep them well lubricated so that they don’t break down. When the engine is cold, the oil becomes thick and so takes longer to travel around all the mechanical components. When you’re changing the oil in your engine, that same oil is protecting the turbo charger as well as the internals of your engine. If the oil is old, it is weakened and will have less protective properties left. Imagine starting the car in the morning, the oil is cold and thick and so can’t move very quickly.. if you was to drive off in speed, your turbo will spool up (kick-in) and do it’s job but not be very well protected against wear due to lack of oil.

9/10 times turbos that are sent in to us for repair or exchange are found to be oil starved and thus their seals blow out and bearings break up inside. This can lead to fin damage on the turbo splines and can mount up to a lot of money.

When a turbo charger has spooled up and the turbines are spinning in tune with the speed of your engine & acceleration, all is good but when you release the accelerator pedal, that’s

when the pressure begins to almost instantly build up inside the turbo charger housing. This causes the turbo to slow down, stop or even “reverse” it’s spinning motion – This reversal is called “Back-Spin” and I’m sure you can imagine, back spinning a turbo charger can not be healthy.

Back spinning can cause problems such as snapped shafts and cracked housings as well as bearings breaking up inside. To eliminate back spin, we always suggest fitting a BOV (Blow Off Valve) to any turbo vehicles, even if you’re not using it for racing, having a blow-off valve is good for motorways when the turbo kicks-in it will help protect and prolong the

turbochargers life – some vehicles come factory fitted with the blow-off valves.

Back Spinning is also caused when you don’t allow the turbo charger enough time to cool down before switching the vehicle off. If you’ve just gone out on a long run or a motorway sprint, somewhere where the turbo had to kick-in and spooled up for some time, the impellar(s) are spinning extremely fast – you must give the turbo enough time to slow down

gradually and at the same time cool down before you switch your engine off (we suggest between 30-90 seconds is adequate). If you switch your engine off immediately (and lets face it, everyone does) you risk damaging the turbo charger or at least reducing the life expectancy of the turbo charger unit. For all you know, the unit could already be damaged – check to see if it’s leaking oil into the intercooler pipes leading up to the inlet manifold, it’s a common failure across all turbo charged vehicles for this exact reason.

When a turbo charger fails, you can expect to notice any of the following effects:

  • Loss Of Power
  • Leaking Oil Into The Intercooler / Inlet Manifold
  • Whining Noise
  • Blue Smoke (Oil Seals)
  • Black Smoke (Burning Fuel)
  • Excessive Fuel Consumption (Look for black smoke)
  • Excessive Play In Shaft
  • Damaged Shaft / Turbine Blades

We rebuild all turbo chargers using only the highest quality parts to meet & exceed the OE standards. We not only repair your old turbo chargers but we carry them in stock remanufactured and new. If you require a fitting service, we can accommodate this too.
