Honda Civic i-Shift Clutch Actuator + Gear Actuator Repairs

Honda Civic i-Shift Clutch + Gear Actuators

Honda Civic I Shift Clutch Actuator Rebuilds
Modern Honda Civics are available with the optional Semi-Automatic gearbox which is equipped with I-Shift technology. This is basically a manual gearbox that is controlled electronically by an electronic clutch actuator, gearbox actuator, and a gearbox ECU. These gearboxes are known to suffer transmission faults. Although this is a very problematic system, it is not always the same part that fails. We’re able to test and repair all three parts – the clutch actuator, gear actuator and the gearbox ECU.

Common Clutch Actuator / Gearbox Actuator Problems

Some of the most common issues found with the Honda Civic I-Shift gearbox are listed below:

  • Selecting Wrong Gears
  • Won’t Rev in Reverse
  • Gears Won’t Select
  • Going in & out of Auto Mode
  • ECU Logging Clutch Actuator Faults
  • ECU Logging Gear Actuator Faults
  • P0810 Clutch Position Control Error

If you find that either of the actuators are faulty and have researched the repair solutions available, you will find that a new clutch & gear actuator will cost in the region of £750 – £950 + VAT + Labour and then extra costs will be added if the unit requires coding / calibration. These are usually available directly from the dealer and will only come with a 12-month warranty, however if you manage to purchase second-hand part, these will usually be cheaper, but will only come with a limited warranty (normally 30-90 days) and will also require programming.

  • Hi there,
I have a Honda Civic 2007 Type S 1.8 iShift which I only just purchased as seen. I didn’t get to catch the iShift fault in it’s early stages during the test drive. The iShift fault Started off intermittent, lit the iShift transmission warning, jerking when changing down and dropping into neutral. Now the iShift Transmission warning is lit permanently and it won’t go into A, M or R. I am told Fault code 0810 clutch position control error, that the clutch actuator needs repairing and maybe the clutch replacing but this garage refuses to give me a quote only an estimate after allowing them to diagnose. Could you help please?

In high gears it goes well Without any issue.
    There is no warring light.
Could please help me with issue and cost to fix it.
    Many thanks.

    • Hi Naeem

      Thanks for the enquiry,

It does sound like the typical fault we would expect from the clutch actuator but it would need to be investigated and the clutch actuator will need testing to confirm the fault. We offer full testing on a purpose-built test rig whereby we can isolate the actuator to ensure we find the root of the failure before proceeding to remanufacture it. All rebuilt units are returned with a Lifetime warranty won’t require reprogramming when refitted to the vehicle.

I have sent you an email with full information and pricing. If you have any questions, please reply to the email and we’ll be happy to assist you.

  • Hello i have a honda jazz i-shift sometime cannot engaged gear clog wheel symbol on how much to fix it thanks

    • Hi Coong

      Thanks for the enquiry,

Having intermittent gear change problems is a common indicator that the iShift actuator is failing. You may find the fault is more visible in colder temperatures and it will become progressively worse over time. We have the facilities to fully bench test and remanufacture the iShift actuator unit and all repaired units are returned with a lifetime warranty.

I have sent you an email with full information and pricing. For further information, please reply to the email and we’ll be happy to assist you.

  • I have a honda civic i-shift 2007 1.8 petrol. The iShift sign was showing when started but could not select gear. Now the car wont start and the cog symbol with the i in is still showing. The fault code p0810 permanent dtc clutc operation problem is shown. I have had the actuator checked and it was returned with no fault. Could you let me know the fault and price to repair

    • Hi Ian

      Thanks for the enquiry,

You could have a fault with the clutch assembly itself but with the way the transmission system is designed, a failure in the clutch assembly can cause the actuator to fail and in the same way, a failing iShift actuator can damage the clutch assembly.

We have sent you an email with full information and pricing for our iShift actuator testing and repair services. We have a fully isolated testing bench where we can simulate the actuator as if it was connected to the vehicle to run a full and thorough test on the unit, so if it is failing, we will find and repair the fault.

I hope this information helps and if you have any further questions, please feel free to come back to me.

      Kind Regards
