Description
Audi A4 Throttle Body Repair: Limp Mode and Lost Power
Power restricted, revs held down and a car that refuses to pull properly: that is limp mode, and a failing throttle body is one of the faults that triggers it on the A4. The engine management does this deliberately when it can no longer trust what the throttle is doing, cutting power to protect the engine, usually with the EPC light on. Limp mode is there to get you home, so have the car looked at promptly. The throttle body comes off at your garage and is posted to us; we repair the A4’s own unit, and once it is back on, the garage carries out the throttle adaptation as part of refitting.
What a Failing A4 Throttle Body Causes
- Limp mode with engine power restricted
- Revs held down and the car reluctant to pull
- EPC light on with the limp mode
- Unstable idle or stalling
- Throttle control codes stored
Other Reasons an A4 Goes Into Limp Mode
Plenty of faults can put an A4 into limp mode, so the codes matter. On the throttle side, a faulty accelerator pedal sensor or a wiring fault in the throttle circuit commonly brings on the EPC light with limp mode, and vacuum or boost leaks, a MAF giving a bad reading and low battery voltage are also worth ruling out. See our throttle body fault code guide, then share the A4’s codes on the repair form or contact us.
