Description
The Citroën C4 Picasso (2009–2017) is a compact MPV built to carry a full load of passengers and luggage day in, day out — and that steady weight over the front axle is exactly the sort of duty that leans on its electric power steering. On the C4 Picasso the assist motor and its control electronics are mounted on the steering column itself (a column-type EPS unit), so when those electronics fail you lose assistance at the wheel while the mechanical steering stays sound. We repair your C4 Picasso’s original EPS column and control module at component level and return the same unit, rather than fitting a replacement that carries the identical weakness.
How the fault shows on a C4 Picasso
The first sign is usually the steering turning heavy — and on a people-carrier that is often loaded with the family aboard, that extra effort is felt straight away, most of all when parking or manoeuvring at low speed. The EPS warning light illuminates on the dashboard.
- Total loss of power assistance — frequently intermittent at first, then permanent
- Steering that becomes very heavy, hardest of all when parking
- EPS warning light lit on the dashboard
- Assistance that can drop out and return before it fails for good
The fault codes we see
- P0606 — internal control-module fault
- C1404 — electric power steering control fault
- C1414 — power steering motor internal fault
All three point inward, to the electronics inside the column-mounted EPS unit rather than to the track rods, the rack or the wiring — an internal electronic component breakdown.
What has actually failed
The failure sits in the control electronics and motor circuitry within the EPS column. As the internal components break down, the module can no longer drive the assist motor reliably and the power assistance cuts out — which is why the steering goes heavy while the mechanical parts remain in good order. Replacing track rods or checking the loom changes nothing, because the fault is on the board inside the unit.
Repairing your C4 Picasso EPS unit
Because the fault is electronic, your C4 Picasso’s original EPS column and ECU can be repaired at component level rather than scrapped for a complete new assembly. This is a mail-in repair-and-return service: you send us the failing unit, our in-house engineers carry out circuit-level board repair on the control module and motor circuitry in a cleanroom-standard, ESD-safe workshop, and we return your own unit — repaired to meet or exceed OE specification with the known weak points reinforced. Every unit is proven on our in-house Hardware-in-the-Loop rigs, which simulate real heat, vibration and load before dispatch, and most remanufactured parts carry a lifetime, unlimited-mileage warranty. Keeping your original unit means the C4 Picasso’s existing coding stays intact.
Once you have completed checkout, print the repair form, add your details and the symptoms you are seeing, and include it in the box with your EPS unit — you can also send it through ahead of the part. That way our engineers can begin work the moment it reaches the bench. If you are not certain the column unit is the exact part your car needs, our wider electric power steering repair service covers the related racks, motors and control units.
