Sanden PXE16 Aircon Not Working

Sanden PXE16 Air Conditioning (Aircon) Compressor – Audi / Seat / Skoda / Volkswagen (VW)

Sanden PXE16 Aircon Not WorkingAir Conditioning Compressor Problems
The Sanden PXE16 air conditioning compressor (aircon pump) is a very common failing part and one of our best sellers because this common failing aircon pump is fitted to a wide range of VAG group cars. When this aircon pump fails, it just stops working – it is very rarely that you will notice a change in the sound of your engine running or any warning lights on the dashboard. The only way you’ll see it’s failed is when you go to switch on the aircon and you realise there is no cold air coming through the vents.

New Replacement Compressor Unit – From Sinspeed
We stock the latest superseded genuine Sanden air conditioning compressors which do not carry this design fault and are a direct replacement (direct fitment) for your vehicle. We stock new and refurbished aircon pumps but also have high quality aftermarket units which meet OE specification.

Reason For Common Pump Failure
The Sanden PXE16 air compressor fails due to a lack of lubrication within the mechanical unit and being such a wide-spread problem I think it’s safe to say it is a manufacturing defect. An air conditioning compressor never just fails – there is always a root cause to why the aircon pump would stop working and in this unfortunate case it is a costly manufactured defect.

Although Volkswagen and other dealers may have acknowledged this fault, whether or not they will replace it under an extended warranty in goodwill is questionable.

The lack of lubrication within the aircon pump causes metal fatigue and will overtime result in the compressor shaft snapping, but the problem gets worse. With the aircon pump now damaged, the rubbing of the broken shaft causes very fine metal particles to break off, also known as swarf. The swarf will get into the entire air conditioning system and block up pipes, valves and filters.

Due to the nature of this air conditioning compressor failure, it won’t be a simple task to just replace the pump and refill the aircon gas. You will be required to replace the aircon expansion valve (TXV Valve) and dryer unit as they get blocked up in all cases. You will also be required to flush the air conditioning system for at least 4 hours to ensure that all residue of swarf is removed prior to fitting the new parts.

A new replacement compressor can be very expensive to fit. We offer replacement aircon pumps at trade prices and can also supply the TXV expansion valves and dryer units if required.

Our replacement units will be a direct fit for the following part numbers:

We have a Jaguar XK R 5lt in our shop with compressor problems. The compressor is a Sanden PXE 16. Is is this the same as the Golf or others VW or Audi please. The pump switches on for some considerable time and pumps normally and then will just switch off. We are considering replacing the solenoid valve first. Gas levels all check out fine. We have power to the compressor.
