Peugeot 206 Manual Gearbox Problems

The Peugeot 206 5-speed manual gearbox, fitted to the 1.1 to 1.4 litre cars from 1997 to 2007, has a well-known weak point. The most common failure with this type of gearbox is the front bearing failing and oil contamination on the clutch. This would cause clutch-slip and a slight noise on idle, which disappears when the clutch is depressed.

Common Peugeot 206 Gearbox Faults

  • Gears Crunching
  • Stuck In Gear
  • Not Going Into Gear
  • Jumping Out of Gear
  • Noisy Gearbox (Whining / Grinding)
  • Gear Problems When Hot
  • Gear Problems When Cold

What Sinspeed repairs, and what it does not

Sinspeed does not rebuild manual gearboxes. A failed front bearing in the 206’s 5-speed box is mechanical work for a gearbox specialist or your garage, along with the oil it lets onto the clutch. What we repair are electronic units such as transmission control modules and clutch and gear actuators. If you are not sure what is causing your fault, contact us and we will tell you plainly.
