This means, we can remap your cars ECU without having to remove it from the vehicle – OBD ECU Remapping will require absolutely no soldering of chips. Which means it’s completely safe and reversible if ever you wanted to remove the remap.

To learn more, please check out our Engine ECU Remapping article.

All our remaps are tailored to you and your vehicle. We take into consideration the vehicle being remapped and the driving style of the owner. Because it is a tailored remap specific to your vehicle, you will not lose the vehicles identification number (VIN) or any hardware and software codes. Our custom remapping software allows us to re-write the software on your engine ECU to get maximum gains in power, performance and economy whilst still keeping the original hardware and software numbers as well as the VIN / Chassis numbers. We also create backups of the original ECU map before writing and loading our custom ECU remap to the vehicle – if ever you wanted to revert back to original settings, it can be done easily and efficiently.

We offer a completely bespoke Mobile ECU Remapping Service. We can come out to your place of work or your home and remap your vehicle on-site. You will instantly feel the transformation from one of our custom remaps. Below is an example of some of the gains you can expect to achieve with a Custom ECU Remap from Sinspeed.

Petrol Non-Turbo     10-15% more bhp       15-20% more torque
Petrol Turbo               15-30% more bhp       20-40% more torque
Diesel Non-Turbo     20-30% more bhp      15-30% more torque
Diesel Turbo               30-50% more bhp       30-75% more torque

There are 100’s of mobile tuners out there and most will only be able to load generic remap files. These are files they’ve collected and purchased in bulk, some could be untested and potentially dangerous but also every generic file will overwrite the original Chassis / VIN number of the vehicle from within the ECU. This means the ECU will lose the specific vehicle details and in essence, its identity.

Removing Seat Leon FR DPF System

Seat Leon 2.0TDI FR (170Bhp) DPF Removal – Diesel Particulate Filter Problems

Seat Leon FR DPF RemovalsSeat Leon FR Overview
The Seat Leon FR is a great car and delivers an impressive 170bhp from it’s 2.0TDi engine. This is the sportiest model currently on the market with lowered and stiffened suspension. As sporty as it is, it still manages to achieve an average of 55.4mpg and 670 miles on a full tank. However, it does have it’s flaws.

If you’re an owner, you’re probably aware of the common DPF fault within the exhaust system. The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is designed to trap harmful gasses ie particulate soot matter and then burn them off at high temperatures to stop them exiting the exhaust into the atmosphere.

Check out our article on What Is A DPF to learn more about the Diesel Particulate Filters.

DPF Problems
The vehicle is manufactured with a DPF and not suitable in it’s factory state for local town driving, it must be driven on a dual-carriage / motorway at least twice weekly (dependant on weekly mileage) for a consistent 20-30 minutes to enable the DPF to regenerate. However, a regeneration is not always successful and eventually will lead to a blocked DPF which will result in loss of power and the car going into LIMP Mode.

There are many factors involved which can lead to the DPF becoming blocked, below we list just a few of the most common issues:

  • Wrong Grade Of Engine Oil Being Used On Services
  • Turning Engine Off During Regeneration
  • Failed Regenerations / Not Regeneration Often Enough
  • Diesel Injector Faults
  • Driving Style – not for town use.
When the DPF is blocked, we do not suggest driving the vehicle unless driving to and from a workshop to have the DPF problems rectified. You must drive in lower gears and high revs, keeping the revs above 2000rpm to help with exhaust gas flow and reduce the chances of further blockage and damage.
A blocked DPF can give various symptoms but below are some of the most common symptoms we find:
  • DPF / Engine / Warning Light On
  • Glow Plug Light Flashing
  • Limp Mode / Loss Of power
  • Fault Codes: P242F, P2002, P0471, 18434 & 08194 etc..
  • Poor Fuel Consumption
  • Hard To Start & Slow Pick-Up In Speed
  • Engine Starts & Cuts Out
  • Engine Fails To Start

Removing Seat Leon FR DPF SystemDPF Maintenance
Modern VAG diesels such as the FR should be regularly serviced with 5w-30 Long Life (Low-Ash) oil, it’s a little more expensive but will help to aid successful regenerations and help to maintain the DPF. If the vehicle is on a regeneration cycle, you must continue to drive at a constant speed of 30-40mph – keeping the revs at 2000rpm until the regeneration is completed. Failure to do so will block the filter up a lot quicker.

Replacement DPF’s
When the DPF is blocked beyond successful regeneration, a replacement filter is not cheap at all and can cost in excess of £1000+ (parts, labour & programming). If you are thinking of replacing the filter as a pose to removal, we always recommend using GENUINE filters only. Aftermarket filters (copy/pattern parts) although Type Approved will not deliver the same quality and you will find you will have a blocked DPF again sooner than expected, being out of pocket and back to square one.

Seat Leon FR DPF Removals
It is possible to remove the DPF successfully without any downsides and in actual fact there are many benefits to removing the DPF filter. Below is a list of just some of the common benefits of a DPF Removal:

  • Increased Fuel Efficiency
  • Increased Engine Performance
  • More Power / Sharper Throttle Response
  • Increased Life Expectancy Of Engine/Turbo
  • No More Limp Mode / Loss Of Power
  • No Engine / DPF Warning Lights / Fault Codes
  • No More Regenerations

With having done over 2000 DPF Removals we are the UK’s leading and most experienced DPF Removal Specialists.

After having the DPF Removed, your vehicle will NOT lose power, you will not experience DPF related warning lights or any regeneration processes ever again! – We will reprogram the ECU to completely deactivate the DPF system as though it was never there and at the same time cancel out the regeneration processes.

Each DPF Removal we do is programmed manually with a Custom remap and a FREE smoke-correction service which guarantees the vehicle will not smoke as a direct result of the DPF being removed. This is a service only offered by Sinspeed.

Finally, you will experience an overall increase in performance, smoothing out any flat spots and safeguard the life of both your engine & turbocharger.

Will DPF Removal Cause Me To Fail An MOT?
From February 2014, the law is changing to include the visual inspection of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) during your MOT inspection. Although our DPF Removals are very discreet and our smoke-correction ensures the vehicle won’t smoke come MOT time, we are offering our DPF Removal sessions as an “Off-Road Use Only” service.

A new DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) will range from £800.00 – £1500.00 (+Labour & VAT). We can remove the entire DPF for a fraction of this cost and you’ll never have to worry about it ever again.

Safe Driving Tips This Winter From Sinspeed

Winter Driving Safety Tips In Ice & Snow

Safe Driving Tips This Winter From SinspeedWell, the first day of snow this year in London and a simple 15 mile round trip which would normally take an hour or two max, has taken us 9 hours today and already we’ve seen half a dozen accidents & we fear there may be more to come. We need to take caution when driving this winter and this has steered my focus to road safety. Lets go over a few points to help all you drivers out this winter.

A few tips from Sinspeed for drivers this winter..

  1. Decrease your speed and leave yourself plenty of room to stop. You should allow at least three times more space than usual between you and the car in front of you.
  2. Brake gently to avoid skidding. If your wheels start to lock up, ease off the brake.
  3. Turn on your lights to increase your visibility to other motorists.
  4. Keep your lights and windshield clean.
  5. Use low gears to keep traction, especially on hills.
  6. Don’t use cruise control or overdrive on icy roads.
  7. Be especially careful on bridges, overpasses and infrequently traveled roads, which will freeze first. Even at temperatures above freezing, if the conditions are wet, you might encounter ice in shady areas or on exposed roadways like bridges.
  8. Don’t pass snow plows and sanding trucks. The drivers have limited visibility, and you’re likely to find the road in front of them worse than the road behind.
  9. Don’t assume your vehicle can handle all conditions. Even four-wheel and front-wheel drive vehicles can encounter trouble on winter roads.
  10. Don’t over-inflate your tyres, instead, we always suggest under-inflating them a little to push more tread down on the ground.

Winter Road Safety Driving Tips From SinspeedSometimes unfortunately it can’t be helped & you will get stuck in the snow & ice but if you’re tooled up with the right knowledge then you’ll know how to react in the different situations and overcome them quickly & safely. Never panic, stay calm and always be thinking ahead. Below we’ve listed the key important points which every driver should go over and familiarise themselves with this winter to ensure our roads stay safe & in motion.

What to do if your rear wheels skid…

  1. Take your foot off the accelerator.
  2. Steer in the direction you want the front wheels to go. If your rear wheels are sliding left, steer left. If they’re sliding right, steer right.
  3. If your rear wheels start sliding the other way as you recover, ease the steering wheel toward that side. You might have to steer left and right a few times to get your vehicle completely under control.
  4. If you have standard brakes, pump them gently.
  5. If you have anti-lock brakes (ABS), do not pump the brakes. Apply steady pressure to the brakes. You will feel the brakes pulse — this is normal.

What to do if your front wheels skid…

  1. Take your foot off the gas and shift to neutral, but don’t try to steer immediately.
  2. As the wheels skid sideways, they will slow the vehicle and traction will return. As it does, steer in the direction you want to go. Then put the transmission in “drive” or release the clutch, and accelerate gently.

What to do if you get stuck…

  1. Do not spin your wheels. This will only dig you in deeper.
  2. Turn your wheels from side to side a few times to push snow out of the way.
  3. Use a light touch on the gas, to ease your car out.
  4. Use a shovel to clear snow away from the wheels and the underside of the car.
  5. Pour sand, kitty litter, gravel or salt in the path of the wheels, to help get traction.
  6. Try rocking the vehicle. (Check your owner’s manual first — it can damage the transmission on some vehicles.) Shift from forward to reverse, and back again. Each time you’re in gear, give a light touch on the gas until the vehicle gets going.

Let us know how you’re all getting on out there and if you have any comments or tips not mentioned above.. share them here 🙂

Ford Focus 1.6TDCi (DPF) TurboCharger Failed

Ford Focus (DPF) 1.6TDCi 16v Turbocharger Failed – Rebuilds & Stock Available!

Contact Us
Ford Focus 1.6TDCi (DPF) TurboCharger FailedWhy They Normally Fail
The Ford Focus (DPF) 1.6TDCi 16v model with the Diesel Particulate Filter is prone to problems such as injectors failing, turbocharger failing and engine oil contamination. This is mainly due to the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) getting blocked up. When the DPF blocks up, it causes back-pressure to push carbon back up in to the turbocharger, engine and other components such as the diesel injectors. They then become carbonated and the oil becomes contaminated.

Common Symptoms of a Failed Turbocharger:

  • Play in the impeller shaft
  • Oil leaking into the Inlet
  • White Smoke
  • Noisy Bearing / Whining Sound On Throttle
  • Loss Of Power & No Kick-Down

What Do We Do?
Rather than spending a fortune to replace the turbocharger with a new unit, or even a second-hand unit which would come with a maximum of 90 days warranty. You can send the turbocharger to us and here at Sinspeed we’ll strip your unit down and rebuild it with all new oil seals & bearings. The housing will be machined and leak tested to ensure a rebuild of the highest quality and returned to you with a full 1 year warranty. In fact, you won’t even recognise the turbocharger as we chemically clean all units before rebuilding so they look as good as new!

Our Rebuild Procedure

  • We first process your turbocharger in our mechanical parts washer
  • We then strip the turbocharger right down & examine it for defects
  • Your turbocharger will then be chemically cleaned & blasted
  • We then leak test the housing and machine if necessary
  • We’ll then proceed to rebuild with all new Oil Seals & Bearings (To meet & exceed the OE specifications)
  • Finally we test, balance & re-calibrate the unit before dispatching it back to you

How Long Will This Process Take?
We can normally turn a turbo rebuild around in 24-48 hours.

Do You Offer A Fitting Service?
Yes, we do. We aim to offer the most competitive rate fitting services and if you find a better deal elsewhere, we always aim to beat it. We also offer a free collect & return service on your vehicle (dependant of your location) so if you’re having turbo problems then get in touch and find out what we can do for you.

Do You Repair Other Turbo’s As Well?
We repair all types of turbocharger units for all  makes & models. If your unit is non-repairable, we have many rebuilt units in stock ready to exchange & dispatch same day. We also carry new units on some of the more commonly known non-repairable turbos or where new units are the more affordable option.

What Guarantee Will Sinspeed Give Me?
We offer all our customers a full 1 years warranty.

BMW Mini Electric Power Assisted Steering Pump (EPAS) Common Failures

BMW Mini Electric Power Steering (PAS) Pumps – Exchange Units In Stock & Rebuild Services!

Contact Us
The Common Failure
The BMW Mini in all it’s ranges is a beautiful car but unfortunately, it too has it’s flaws. The EPAS (Electric Power Assisted Steering) system also know as EHPAS (Electro-Hydraulic Power Assisted Steering) system is a major flaw in it’s design and almost all units are guaranteed to fail within 70k miles from new.

Why Do They Fail?
Believed to be a manufacturing defect, almost all of the electric mini power steering pumps will fail at some point or another unless they have been previously repaired by a qualified company that can meet & exceed the OE standards and rectify the common problems as we do to ensure they are future proof. The original units first fitted in 2001 to the BMW Mini’s were having the problem of not turning off with the engine. They were receiving a constant live which would drain the battery power and eventually burn out the motor in the electric steering pump. BMW did go on to try correct this issue & unfortunately, came to a bigger issue where they found that some of the newer models of the electric steering pump were in fact catching fire under the bonnet.. damaging the wiring harness at the same time. As you can imagine, an electrical fire under the bonnet of a petrol car can be VERY dangerous.

What Are The Common Symptoms?

  • Noisy Power Steering Pump
  • Power Steering Pump Staying On When Engine Off
  • Battery Keeps Getting Drained
  • Overheats & Catches Fire (in extreme cases only)
  • Complete Loss Of Power Steering

Should I Replace Or Repair?
If you’re replacing it, make sure it’s being replaced with one that’s previously been repaired & modified to rectify all manufacturing defects. If you’re looking to buy a new unit or even a second hand unit from a parts shop or breakers yard then expect it to fail in the future, none are future proof unless they are modified to meet & exceed OE specification and currently that is the ONLY way to safeguard the future of the unit. In fact, we’re so confident that we offer a full no quibble 2 years warranty where as a new part will come with only 6months to 1year warranty and second hand parts with only up to 90 days warranty.

Our parts will meet & exceed the OE specification, work exactly as it should and rest assured it will never fail again. All our mini electric steering pumps are tested off the shelf and come with a complete 2 years warranty.

What Options Do I Have With Sinspeed?

  • Rebuild & Modify Your Own Unit (COU – Customers Own Unit)
  • Exchange Unit Sold Off the Shelf (Modified & Ready For Same-Day Dispatch!)

That’s right, this problem is so common that we always try to carry them in stock on the shelf ready for same day dispatch.

Can I Remove & Fit This Part Myself?
You will have to have some mechanical experience but it’s not the hardest of jobs to remove and fit a BMW Mini electric power steering pump. If you’re not confident in doing so, then we do offer a full supply & fit service at our workshop and a free collect & return service of your vehicle (dependant on your location).
