Peugeot Sanden SD6V12 Aircon Pump Compressor Problems

Sanden SD6V12 Air Conditioning Compressor – Peugeot

Peugeot Sanden SD6V12 Aircon Pump Compressor ProblemsPeugeot Aircon Failures
If you are an owner of a Peugeot and have been having issues with your Air Conditioning Compressor, you may find that it is fitted with the Sanden SD6V12. Sanden is a popular make amongst air conditioning compressors and this particular unit is fitted to a large range of Peugeot’s manufactured between 2000 – 2012, and some even later vehicles. It is known to be a common failing part, and we now carry 100% genuine OEM as well as aftermarket replacements units in stock.

Common Air Conditioning Pump Problems
If your Peugeot is currently suffering from any of the issues below then it is more than likely that your air-con pump either requires a repair or a replacement –

  • Compressor Clutch Not Engaging
  • No Cold Air (Even After Re-filling Aircon Gas)
  • Grinding Noise When Pressing Aircon Button
  • Unable to Discharge Gas
  • Unable to Refill Gas
  • Pressure Problems
  • Electrical Faults

Unfortunately, a new compressor from a dealer is very expensive and purchasing a second-hand used part would be much cheaper initially to buy, but with only a 30-90 day limited warranty and not knowing how many miles it has already covered or how well it was maintained by the previous owner, there will always be the chance of this common failing part to become faulty again.

New Replacement Aircon Pumps & Own Unit Rebuilds – From Sinspeed
Here at Sinspeed we have the knowledge as well as the equipment to fully bench test and repair almost all types of air conditioning compressor units. We also carry a large number of genuine OEM and aftermarket compressors in stock as a direct replacement for your faulty part.

Only genuine OEM components are used when rebuilding air conditioning compressors to ensure each and every aircon pump rebuild meets & exceeds OE specifications. All units are returned with a 12 month warranty as standard.

Volkswagen Sanden PXE16 Aircon Compressor Not Working

Sanden PXE16 Air Conditioning (Aircon) Compressor – Volkswagen

Volkswagen Sanden PXE16 Aircon Compressor Not WorkingAir Conditioning Compressor Issues
The air conditioning unit on various Volkswagens have been known to commonly fail. The Sanden PXE16 air conditioning compressor (aircon pump) is fitted to many of the Volkswagen cars, and many customers have complained that when it fails, there is rarely any warnings whether that be on the dashboard, or any change to the sound of the engine. They have noticed the fault only when they go to turn on the aircon and realise that there is no cold air coming through the vents.

Reason For Common Pump Failure
Having investigated many faulty Sanden PXE16 air conditioning compressor units, we have concluded that the main reason for the failure of this particular unit is due to lack of lubrication within the mechanical unit and that is it most likely down to a manufacturing defect. This is due to the fact the aircon pumps rarely just fail, there is always a root cause as to why it would just stop working, and in this case, it has proved to a be very costly manufactured defect. Although many dealers have now acknowledged this fault, it is still questionable whether they will replace it under the extended warranty in goodwill.

When an air conditioning unit lacks lubrication, it eventually causes metal fatigue. Over time, this results in the compressor shaft snapping, but unfortunately, if this is not rectified immediately, it then leads to further issues within the pump. The rubbing of the broken shaft causes very fine particles, known as swarf, to break off and get within the whole air conditioning system and causing the pipes, valves and the filters to block up.

Also, due to the nature of the air conditioning compressor failure, it is not as easy as replacing the pump and refilling the aircon gas. The aircon expansion valve (TXV Valve) and dryer unit will also need to be replaced due to it being blocked up from the swarf. The air conditioning system would then also need to be flushed for at least 4 hours to ensure that the swarf residue is removed before fitting the new parts.

Audi Sanden PXE16 Aircon Compressor Problems

Sanden PXE16 Air Conditioning (Aircon) Compressor – Audi

Audi Sanden PXE16 Aircon Compressor ProblemsAir Conditioning Compressor Problems
The Sanden PXE16 air conditioning compressor (aircon pump) has been known to be a very common failing part on Audi’s, and it is also one of our best sellers as this common failing aircon pump is fitted to a wide range of Audi’s. If you are the proud owner of an Audi, you will have noticed that when the aircon pump fails, it just completely stops working. You will rarely notice any change in the sound of the engine running or any warning lights on the dashboard, and you will notice the fault when you go to turn the aircon on and realise that there is no cold air coming through the vents.

Reason For Common Pump Failure
After receiving countless Sanden PXE16 air compressor units at our garage which have failed due to a lack of lubrication within the mechanical unit and with it being such a wide-spread problem, I think it’s safe to say it is a manufacturing defect. An air conditioning compressor never just fails – there is always a root cause to why the aircon pump would stop working and in this unfortunate case it is a costly manufactured defect.

Many other dealers may have acknowledged this fault, but whether or not they will replace it under an extended warranty in goodwill is questionable.

We have noticed that the issue has been with the lack of lubrication within the aircon pump which has eventually caused metal fatigue. Over time, this has resulted in the compressor shaft snapping, but unfortunately the problem gets worse. With the aircon pump damaged, the rubbing of the broken shaft causes very fine metal particles to break off, which is also known as swarf. This leads to the swarf getting in to the entire air conditioning system and causing pipes, valves and filters to block up.

Unfortunately due to the nature of this air conditioning compressor failure, it is not just a simple task of replacing the pump and refilling the aircon gas. The aircon expansion valve (TXV Valve) and dryer unit will need to be replaced as they get blocked up in all cases. You will also be required to flush the air conditioning system for at least 4 hours to ensure that all residue of swarf is removed prior to fitting the new parts.

Skoda Sanden PXE16 Aircon Compressor Not Working

Sanden PXE16 Air Conditioning (Aircon) Compressor – Skoda

Skoda Sanden PXE16 Aircon Compressor Not WorkingAir Conditioning Compressor Problems
Is your Skoda equipped with the Sanden PXE16 air conditioning compressor (aircon pump)? Has it ever stopped working without any warning? Unfortunately, this particular aircon pump is a very common failing part and one of our best sellers because it is fitted to a wide range of Skoda’s. We have identified that when this aircon pump fails, it just stops working without any warning, and the only way that you will identify that it is faulty, is when you turn on the aircon switch and realise nothing is coming out through the vents. Very rarely will you notice a change in the sound of your engine running or any warning lights on the dashboard.

Reason For Common Pump Failure
The lack of lubrication within the mechanical unit has been the cause of so many aircon pump issues, and due to the widespread failure of these, it has been put down to a manufacturing defect as an air conditioning compressor never just fails. There is always an initial cause for it to stop working and in this case, a costly manufactured defect. Many other dealers have acknowledged this fault, however it is questionable whether or not they will replace it under an extended warranty in goodwill.

When there is lack of lubrication within the aircon pump, over a period of time, this will result in the compressor shaft eventually snapping, and it doesn’t just stop there. Once the aircon pump is damaged, fine metal particles, also known as swarf, break off due to rubbing of the broken shaft, and then go on to infiltrate the entire air conditioning unit, blocking up the pipes, valves and the filters.

Unfortunately, once the damage is done to the air conditioning compressor, it is not a simple task to just replace the pump and refill the aircon gas. The aircon expansion valve (TXV Valve) and dryer unit will more than likely need to be replaced as they will definitely get blocked up. The air-conditioning system will also need to be flushed for at least 4 hours in order to remove all the residue of swarf within the system before fitting of the new parts.
