Ford Transit 2.2TDCi Electronic Turbo Actuator Repairs

Ford Electronic Turbo Actuator ProblemsFord Transit Electronic Turbo Actuator Problems
The Ford Transit 2.2TDCi between 2008 – 2012 is fitted with an electronic turbocharger actuator manufactured by a company called HELLA. It replaces the conventional vacuum turbo actuators which were found fitted to earlier models and is controlled by the Engine ECU to regulate the output of the turbocharger. When correctly tuned, the electronic actuator can be adjusted to improve the power, performance and economy of the vehicle but at the same time this electronic part can be a very troublesome component and is a known common failure on modern turbocharged vehicles.

Common Part Numbers: G41752406 / 6NW009206

The most common symptoms relating to a failed electronic turbo actuator for the Ford Transit include a flashing glow plug light and limp mode. Other fault symptoms can also include the following:

  • Loss of power under acceleration
  • Intermittent loss of power under acceleration
  • Smoking on acceleration
  • Fault codes pointing to turbo actuator
  • Fault codes pointing to turbo performance
  • Actuator arm not moving
  • Fault Code: P132A – Turbo Actuator Vane
  • Fault Code: P132B – Turbo Boost Control ‘A’ Performance
  • Limp mode
  • Flashing glow plug light

Ford Electronic Turbo Actuator ProblemsWhen the turbo actuator fails, a replacement is not sold separately and you must purchase a replacement turbocharger which can typically cost upwards of £1200 + labour. The new part is very expensive and will only come with a 12 month warranty. The alternative option would be to have your turbo actuator remanufactured by a specialist like Sinspeed.

  • I have a ford transit 2012 trend 125 lwb hi top.
Last April in went into limp mode with the traction control light on the dash along with the engine management light.
Had a new turbo and electronic actuator fitted, 5 days later same again.
So they replaced the turbo and electronic actuator again.
Two weeks later again, so they replaced the glow plugs.
Now 9 months on its happening again.
If I stop the van and turn the engine off and restart it I get full power again for around 30 minutes then straight back into limp mode with the lights back on the dash?

  • Hi, i own transit 2013 2.2, lwb, high top. There is engine mulfunction fault comming up with traction light after some time from start. When engine stops and restart, it is ok for some time, than again the problem comes. It looks like no metter of revs (high or low) and time after starting the engine – the fault comes back. I don’t think it is related, but all glow plugs arent working too. Can you help? Thanks.
