EGR delete is offered for off-road and motorsport use only. On a vehicle used on the road, emissions equipment that is missing, obviously modified or obviously defective is a Major defect at MOT — the DVSA MOT inspection manual names exhaust gas recirculation valves explicitly (section 8.2.2.1 for diesel, 8.2.1.1 for petrol), and this applies to vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2002. Separately, the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 make it an offence to use a vehicle on the road with its emissions equipment removed or rendered inoperative. If your EGR valve is sticking or clogged on a road-used vehicle, cleaning or replacing the valve is the road-legal fix.
