Summary: When an Iveco Daily shows the ABS and traction lamps, loses its speedometer or will not talk to a diagnostic tool, the Bosch 5.7 ABS pump module is a common cause. We test and remanufacture your own unit with genuine OEM components, so it goes back on plug and play with no programming, and it carries our lifetime warranty.
This page sits within our ABS pump and module repairs and is written for Daily owners and for the garages and fleet workshops that keep them working.

Which warning lights and faults does a failing Bosch 5.7 unit cause on a Daily?
The Bosch 5.7 on a Daily is the pump and the control module in one assembly, which is why it answers to so many names. On vans equipped with traction control it also carries the stability functions. When it starts to fail, the result is rarely a single lamp.
On the dashboard, the Daily units sent to us have come in with:
- the ABS warning lamp on
- the traction control lamp on
- the handbrake or brake warning lamp on
- the steering warning lamp on
And in the way the van behaves, or what the scanner finds:
- a speedometer that has stopped working
- no communication with the ABS unit through the OBD port
- a pressure sensor fault stored
- wheel speed sensor faults stored
- brakes juddering
Several of these make sense once you know what the unit does. Traction and stability control rely on the same module, so they switch off with ABS. The module shares its wheel-speed data with the instrument cluster, so the speedometer can stop reading when the module drops out. The red handbrake or brake lamp needs more care: low brake fluid lights it too, so have the level checked before the unit takes the blame.
With the ABS lamp lit, normal braking usually remains, so the van still stops. What goes is the anti-lock, traction and stability assistance — the help you would want most with a load on board and a wet road under the tyres. Have it checked promptly rather than working the van around the lamps. Our guide to what an ABS pump does and how it works covers the system when it is healthy.
It matters at test time too. Under the DVSA’s MOT inspection rules, an ABS warning lamp that stays on after the start-up check is a major defect on a vehicle first used from 1 July 2003, so a Daily showing it will not pass as it stands. Putting the unit right deals with the ABS item; the rest of the test is still judged on the van as a whole.
What will a diagnostic scan show when the unit is at fault?
Scan tools word ABS faults differently, so the pattern of readings matters more than any single line. These are the results that point towards the Bosch 5.7 unit, and what each one does and does not prove.
| What the scan shows | Code | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| No response from the ABS unit (“no link” or “module not responding”) | None — the unit cannot be reached | The ABS module is off the network. Battery voltage, earths, wiring and the connector have to be ruled out before the unit is condemned. |
| Lost communication with the ABS control module, logged in other modules | U0121 | Other modules have stopped hearing from the ABS unit. It confirms the unit is offline, not why. |
| Brake pressure sensor fault | Varies with the tool | A pressure reading the module will not accept. It is one of the faults found on Daily units sent to us. |
| Wheel speed sensor fault on one or more wheels | Varies with the tool | Check the sensor and its wiring first. If sound sensors keep being flagged, the module reading them becomes the suspect. |
A no-communication fault deserves the most care, because a weak battery, a corroded earth or a damaged loom can silence a healthy module just as convincingly as an internal fault. Our ABS no-communication diagnosis guide sets out the order in which to rule those out. For a single wheel-speed code with nothing else lit, begin with our wheel speed sensor guide.

Why does a Daily’s ABS module fail, and why does it look like something else?
The unit is bolted into the brake hydraulic circuit in the engine bay. It heat-cycles every time the engine warms up and cools down, takes the vibration of every road surface, and its pump runs whenever ABS or stability control steps in.

A working van asks more of it than most cars do. High mileage, a payload on board and a day of stop-start deliveries all mean more braking and more heat through the unit, while the brake fluid around it ages and draws in moisture. None of that is a sign of neglect; it is what the job involves.
The fault is so often misread because nearly everything this system knows passes through one module. Every wheel-speed signal, the brake pressure reading and the data it shares with the rest of the van all run through it. When the module itself starts to fail, it can report sensors that are perfectly sound, leave the speedometer without its data or drop off the network altogether. That is how a van ends up with new sensors and the same lamp back on the dash.
The same pattern turns up across the vehicles the 5.7 was fitted to, which is why our Bosch 5.7 ABS / ESP pump module page lists an almost identical set of faults for cars and vans alike.
Which Dailys and part numbers does this repair cover?
This page covers Iveco Daily vans fitted with the Bosch 5.7 ABS / ESP pump module. The same unit family was used well beyond Iveco: the vehicles we have recorded with it include the Mercedes Sprinter and Vito, Ford Mondeo, Audi A4, A6 and A8, BMW 3, 5 and 7 Series and X5, and the VW Passat and Polo.
That is why the list below carries numbers from other manufacturers as well as Iveco. The model name only narrows it down; the number on your unit’s label is what identifies it. Match either the Bosch number or the vehicle manufacturer’s OEM number.

If your number is not on the list, that does not necessarily rule the unit out. Add it to the repair form, or ask us to check it before the unit comes off. If the unit on your Daily is not a Bosch 5.7, our Iveco ABS pump repairs page covers the rest of our Iveco work.
Should you rebuild the Bosch 5.7 unit or fit a replacement?
Once the unit is confirmed as the fault, there are three ways to go. On a working van, the difference that matters most is what happens at refit.
| Option | What you get | At refit | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| New replacement unit | A new unit of the same design | Typically needs coding to the van before the system accepts it | The fault clears, with the same design back on the van |
| Used unit | A unit off another vehicle, with an unknown history | Has to match your part number, then typically needs coding | May carry the same age-related wear, with little meaningful warranty |
| Sinspeed remanufacture | Your own unit, tested and rebuilt with genuine OEM components | Plug and play, with no extra programming | Returned tested, with a lifetime warranty |
Coding is where a replacement costs you time. A unit that has never been on your van knows nothing about it, and setting it up takes equipment able to talk to the vehicle at manufacturer level — which can mean a second booking elsewhere before the van is back at work. The unit we return is the one that came off your Daily, so it refits without being programmed to anything.
How does the mail-in repair work, and how do you keep the downtime short?
The unit travels; the van does not. Much of the downtime is settled before anything is unbolted, which is why the first step matters most.
- Check before anything is unbolted
The repair form asks for the Daily’s details, the lamps that are lit, any scan readings and the number on the unit’s label. We confirm it is a unit we repair before your garage takes it off.
- Posted in by your garage
Your garage removes the unit and sends it to us, packed so the ports and connector are protected. With the brake circuit opened, the van stays where it is until the unit returns.
- Fault confirmed on our test equipment
The unit is tested before any work starts, so the repair rests on what it does on our equipment rather than on a code alone.
- Remanufactured and proved on the rig
It is rebuilt with genuine OEM components, then run on our in-house Hardware-in-the-Loop platform, which reproduces the heat, vibration and electrical load of life on the van.
- Refitted with no programming
Your garage refits it, bleeds the brakes, clears the stored codes and checks that the lamps go out after the start-up check.
If you would rather we handled the diagnosis or the fitting as well, we offer both where required. Contact us to arrange it.
Iveco Daily ABS pump questions
Can I keep using the Daily with the ABS light on?
Normal braking usually remains, so the van will still stop, but the anti-lock, traction and stability assistance is lost. Have it checked promptly, particularly if the van is working loaded. An ABS lamp that stays on is also an MOT failure.
Will the rebuilt Bosch 5.7 unit need coding to my van?
No. It is your own unit, returned plug and play with no extra programming. Your garage bleeds the brakes and clears the stored codes when it goes back on.
Why has the speedometer stopped working along with the ABS light?
The ABS module shares its wheel-speed data with the instrument cluster. When the module fails or drops off the network, the speedometer can lose its reading at the same time.
The wheel speed sensors have been replaced and the fault is still there. Is it the ABS unit?
It may be. Every wheel-speed signal is read by the module, so a failing unit can keep reporting sensors that are sound. Put the remaining codes on the repair form and we will advise before the unit comes off.
Why does the part number list include BMW, Audi and Mercedes numbers?
The Bosch 5.7 was fitted to a wide range of vehicles, the Daily among them, so the list covers the whole unit family. Match the Bosch or OEM number on your unit’s label, or ask us to check it.
Final thoughts
A Bosch 5.7 fault on a Daily rarely shows itself tidily. It arrives as a dead speedometer one week and a sensor code the next, and each symptom invites its own small fix before anyone looks at the unit behind all of them.
The shortest route back to a working van is to read the symptoms as a set. When they point at the module, rebuilding the one that came off keeps the van’s own unit, refits without programming and gives the driver back the assistance the ABS lamp was warning about.
