BMW Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve / EGR Delete Service

EGR Removal / EGR Delete SessionBMW EGR Valve Faults + Problems
The EGR valve is designed to recirculate exhaust gasses into the engine to be re-burnt before exiting into the atmosphere. Although this concept is great for reducing vehicle emissions, it can cause all sorts of problems over time as carbon begins building up inside the inlet manifold and engine. Carbon build-up around the engine valves can over time decrease the power output of the engine, increase the emissions, and cause smoking problems.

Diesel BMW’s are notorious for their EGR valve failures. Bypassing the EGR valve was a common solution on early models, however, modern engines are now a lot more sophisticated and the engine ECU can tell when you bypass/blank off the EGR and will bring up fault codes, warning lights and even put the vehicle into “limp mode” to restrict the performance.

When the EGR fails on a BMW you can expect some of the following symptoms:

  • Smoke on Acceleration
  • Fluttering On Acceleration
  • Loss of Power
  • Missfire
  • EGR Flap Position Sensor Faults

Replacing the EGR valve can be very expensive but may not necessarily fix the problem long term. The EGR is designed to recirculate exhaust gasses and so naturally the valve will over time, get built up with carbon and become sticky, which can then begin causing problems. So if you are replacing the EGR valve for an expensive new unit, we would recommend removing and cleaning it thoroughly with every other service to maintain it.

The alternative option is to delete the EGR valve from the engine ECU and by doing so we can program the EGR to remain shut at all times, effectively blanking it off so it does not recirculate any exhaust gasses into the inlet / engine. By programming the EGR to remain shut at all times, we can avoid having any fault codes, warning lights or “Limp Mode” problems as the ECU will be expecting the EGR to be closed at all times anyway.

EGR Valve Blocked Up - EGR RemovalBMW EGR Delete Services – By Sinspeed
We offer a safe and completely bespoke EGR Delete service whereby we de-activate the EGR valve system completely. We log into your vehicle’s on-board engine management system via the ECU and switch off the EGR valve to stay closed at all times and stop recirculating all the exhaust gasses and clogging up your engine. When done correctly you will not experience any warning lights on the dash, no fault codes being logged and no loss of power – because the ECU will accept our EGR deactivation and will not look to register anything more from the EGR system.

Below we have compiled a list of BMW’s we currently offer the EGR delete service for. If your vehicle is not listed below, please contact us to confirm whether or not it is one we can offer an EGR delete for.

Fiat 500 Electric Power Steering (EPS) Column Repairs

Fiat 500 Electric Power Steering (EPS) Column Repairs

Fiat 500 Electric Power Steering (EPS) Column RepairsFiat 500 Electric Power Steering Common Problems
The Fiat 500 is manufactured with an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system which greatly improves the handling and efficiency of the vehicle when compared to a conventional hydraulic steering system. Although it has proven to be a great improvement to vehicle steering systems, especially with units being much simpler to manufacture and maintain, the electronic steering on this vehicle is prone to failure and we’re taking enquiries for this part on a daily basis.

Fiat 500 Electric Steering Column RepairsFiat 500 EPS Column – Common Faults
Has your vehicle been suffering from intermittent steering failures with the steering going heavy in either one or both directions? Or does your steering light come on frequently?

If this sounds familiar, then this may be due to a fault with your Electric Power Steering Column. If either of the above faults occur, causing the steering light to remain permanently on the dash, this means the electric power steering has completely failed and the steering will become heavy wit no power assistance and will need to be either repaired or replaced.

When taken to a garage, they will more than likely plug-in diagnostic equipment through the OBD port, and the following fault codes may be highlighted:

C1001 – Rear Left External Sensor
C1002 – Steering Column Torque Position

If the EPS column has completely failed, you could go to the main dealer for a replacement, but the cost of this could be in excess of £800 + VAT (plus labour + programming), and will only come with a 12-month warranty. If you take it to your local garage, they will more than likely do a quick search online for a replacement second-hand unit, which if you’ve already checked, you will realise that it is considerably cheaper. However, problems with this unit could arise later as you will be unaware of previous vehicle usage and the number of miles that were covered with that part. This part will also only generally come with a 30-90 day limited warranty, therefore, you will have no guarantee whether the part will last beyond this period.

My Fiat 500 Electric Steering Column Is Faulty – How Can Sinspeed Help?

So you’re probably wondering at this point – how can Sinspeed help me? We carry units in stock as a direct replacement for your old part which are set to self-calibrate when fitted to your vehicle and will not require coding. Not only this, but they also come with a Lifetime Warranty!

We also offer a repair service, where we can remanufacture your own Electric Power Steering Column unit, and this is done using only genuine OEM components to ensure that it meets and exceeds OE specifications. Again, all our repaired and exchanged electric steering columns will come with a lifetime warranty and will not require any coding.

The list below is of the most common part numbers found fitted to Fiat 500’s and is not a complete list. If you find it is not listed on there, let us know and we’ll check for you!

BMW Turbocharger Actuator Repairs

BMW X3 2.0D (E83) Electronic Turbo Actuator Repairs

BMW Turbocharger Actuator RepairsBMW X3 Turbo Actuator faults
The BMW X3 2.0D from 2004 to 2007 is fitted with an electronic turbo actuator, which is designed to accurately control the flow and output of the turbocharger. The actuator is controlled by the Engine ECU and the parameters of the ECU can be adjusted to change the way the actuator operates. If tuned correctly, you can decrease the spool up time of the turbocharger and simultaneously increase the power and economy of the vehicle.

Electronic turbo actuators are very common failing parts and are not sold separately from the turbo. So when the electronic turbo actuator does fail, you are quoted by the dealers for a complete replacement turbocharger + actuator together. Used parts are not recommended due to how common the actuator failure is and also used parts will require coding to the vehicle at an additional cost.

BMW X3 Electronic Turbo Actuator Failure Symptoms
A faulty turbo actuator can sometimes be very easy to diagnose, however sometimes the diagnostic equipment can point you in the direction of a boost pressure sensor or give descriptions like “Boost Leak Detected”. Therefore it is necessary to ensure you thoroughly diagnose the problem before you start replacing components. Below is a short list of common failure symptoms we see with the electronic turbocharger actuator.

  • Loss of power under acceleration
  • Intermittent loss of power under acceleration
  • Smoking on acceleration
  • Fault codes pointing to turbo actuator
  • “Charge Air Pressure Control” fault
  • Actuator arm not moving

Denso 7SB16C Aircon Compressor

Denso 7SB16C Air Conditioning Compressor – Audi

Denso 7SB16C Aircon CompressorAudi Air Conditioning Compressor
The Denso 7SB16C is a compressor unit which is found fitted to early Audi’s and in fact a variety of VAG cars manufactured between 1995 – 2008. We stock the Denso 7SB16C aircon pump both as a brand new genuine OEM part and also it’s aftermarket equivalent. Both options come with a full 12 month warranty and guaranteed to save you money.

Audi Aircon Pump Problems
Air conditioning compressors very rarely fail due to old age, in fact we’ve often enough seen a good compressor outlive the vehicle it’s fitted to, it all comes down to how well it is maintained. Below are just some of the common problems known around this type of air conditioning compressor:

  • Grinding Noise When Pressing Aircon Button
  • Compressor Clutch Not Engaging
  • Electrical Faults
  • No Cold Air (Even After Re-filling Aircon Gas)
  • Unable to Discharge Gas
  • Unable to Refill Gas
  • Pressure Problems

Replacing a failed compressor could end up costing you in excess of £500 +Vat just for the part alone and then there is the labour and re-gassing to add to that. The cheaper alternative is usually a second hand part but it’s never advised as you cannot say for sure how well it was maintained, if it is in any better condition then yours and how long it will last – used parts generally only come with 30-90 days warranty as well.

New Replacement Compressors + Own Unit Rebuilds by Sinspeed
We stock almost every air conditioning compressor for every make and model of vehicle. Our air conditioning engineers are also capable of stripping down and rebuilding some of the most common failing compressors. We use new genuine OEM components when rebuilding a compressor to ensure it meets & exceeds OE specifications. All of our repaired air conditioning pumps are returned with a 12 month warranty.

We stock brand new genuine units and OE equivalent aftermarket units which are almost manufactured to meet & exceed OE specifications. They too come with our standard 12 month manufacturer warranty, so whatever option you go for – we’ve got you covered!
