DSG / CVT Transmission Control Module Problems + Repairs
The automatic transmission fitted to VAG group vehicles, namely Audi / Seat / Skoda and Volkswagen (VW) are very commonly known for becoming faulty and causing all sorts of transmission related problems. All vehicles are affected from automatics to semi-automatics.. from Mechatronic, Multitronic and S-Tronic right down to DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) vehicles.
Sometimes these faults can be corrected by a simple Gearbox oil change or software update but more commonly the fault is caused by the Transmission Control Module (TCM), also known as the Gearbox ECU.
Common DSG / CVT Transmission Controller Problems
A failed Transmission Control Unit (TCU) can cause a wide number of faults. Some faults can be intermittent or become progressively worse depending on the nature of the fault but can almost always be repaired. Below we have listed some of the most common faults our customers have experienced with their failed DSG / CVT Transmission Controllers.

Common TCM Related DTC Fault Codes
A problematic DSG controller may not bring up any warning lights or fault codes so it’s not always as easy to locate the problem. We have however compiled a small list of common DTC fault codes below which we have found to be linked to DSG Transmission Control Unit problems.

When the DSG Gearbox ECU becomes faulty, your local dealer will quote you in excess of £1000.00 +VAT for a replacement TCM unit which will also require coding / programming at an additional cost. The new replacement part will come with a standard 12 month warranty. I have a 2008 vW jetta, without warning it gives high revs, there is a huge power drop to what I assume is first gear and doesn’t go any higher. have to turn it on and off then it’ll be fine. happens on low and high speeds.
got an open circuit for pressure control solenoid 5 and i had that changed + cleaning of solenoids, same thing.
took it to someone with a vW machine to test it while i drives and he’s positive it’s the mechatronics. how much do you charge for the mechatronics part for the transmission on a 2008 auto tdi?

I have a 2009 Audi A3 1.4 TFSI fitted with the 7spd dry Clutch DSG. This has no error codes stored, no flashing lights and intermittently suffers from bad gear changes with the box being in neutral for a period between gears and occasionally goes into limp home mode. The error goes away when the ignition is switch off and restarted again but as soon as you drive fro a couple minutes the spanner light flashes again.
Have you ever come across this particular issue on a DSG Gearbox (DQ500) (out of Europe)?

Hello, i live in Greece and i have an a3 1.4 TSI s-tronic, 2011, 106000 kms, FSH. Last few days the gear digit on the dashboard starts flashing after 5-10 min of driving (e.g. 10′-15′). the car still drives as usual (apart from some -occasional- hesitation at the 2nd gear, perfectly). a mechanic connected the reader to the bus and that showed problem with the pump (?) of the mechatronic unit, recommending the whole unit to be replaced. can you help? thank you

I have a Audi A3 Sport 2008.
The gearbox when cold selects drive with a slight lag. When hot with your foot on the foot brake at lights, take your foot off then there is a good 4-5 second delay before engaging drive. Also when hot on a slight incline it will jump out of gear. When hot the gear change is jerky.
Kick down and if you drive the car hard is normal.
Gearbox oil and filters are new. Are you able to diagnose if the vehicle is with you?

Gearbox oil changed 2 times, flyweel has be changed as Recommended by the service and still going in limp mode 2/3 times in 10 miles.

Hi, my VW Passat Estate 2006, automatic DSG gearbox, is showing me the following fault: When I change the status of the gear)from P to R, for example, but applies to all options), all the PDNSR lights start flashing on my screen. It doesn’t happen all the time, but I noticed, that I need to press the speed pedal straight after the change of the gear, in order to avoid this fault to appear. And also, the engine light is on now, after the first case, that happened. It is showing the following faults: 02E 300 043M Fault Status:10100100, fault priority: 0; Fault frequency:255 And the other one: 03G906018CE Fault Status: 01101000; Fault priority:0 Fault Frequency:30 Please, advice what this could be and how to fix.

I have an Audi a4 1.8T with a faulty multitronic gearbox. I’ve just bought it and it drove well for 2 weeks. Problem started in third week in the morning 2 hen it jumped out of gear and switched off I put it in neutral and restarted, all was well. On third day it did the same. I drove for 8 km then it stopped shifting gears while in motion. There was nothing abnormal except that it wouldn’t shift gears even in manual. The mechanic plugged in a diagnostic tool and it showed a tiptronic switch fault. How can you assist me to get this transmission working again?
Hi, i have an 2005 Audi A3 2.0lL, When the engines/Trans gets to operating temperature the gearbox begins to jerk in/out of gears. The dealership have scanned but no codes and there are no flashing lights on the Dash.

Hi just bought a beetle today for my sister. It drove fine on the test drive, but on the way home from the garage I gave it a bit of stick and it wouldn’t change up from 2nd to 3rd gear. At first I thought it was slipping. But it was fine when I drove it home nicely for the rest of the journey. Any ideas? It’s a 2001 2.0 litre auto VW Beetle hatchback with a 100k miles on it (just a cheap runabout really).

I have a Skoda Rapid automatic, 3yrs old and only 6000 miles on the clock. No problems on ordinary running but in heavy, stop-start, motorway traffic there is a loud noise from the transmission each time I pull forward. This stops when the car is running smoothly once again. The garage has had the car in but they cannot reproduce the noise so can do nothing. Your advice would be appreciated.

I’m having Some problem with my dsg vw golf 2005.
I just brought it and now im having problems With the gearbox.
The dash often flashes and goes & stays in that gear cos it goes to safe mode or something. But after turning the car back on again, The car drives normal again.
I’ve seen, driving on the manual mode Doesn’t have No problems.
Only on the ‘d’ Gear i get the Fault p2711 unexpected mechanical gear Disengagement.
What could be the problem?

Your website says the TCM Should be replaced or repaired,
And noticed the fault code in my car is on the list of fualts leading to the TCM Gone bad.
If so, will that resovle the flashing problem, cos the drives smooth, Only this gear disengagement problem is dissapointed me.
I live in east london hackney and would like to get advice on what would fix The problem and how much it would cost and if i can come see you.

I recently had some issues with my dsg transmission on my 2006 audi a3. My dsg transmission has LSD installed however everything was working fine for over a year now up until today. When I reached a stop sign my car was flashing PRNDS and it would not drive, I had to shut it off and turn it back on and when i was driving it to my home it was lurching a bit. Also i hear a noise while i am driving and it sounds like a wub wub wub noise while im driving slow.
I am in Canada, however I would like some advise on what i should do if you guys can help.
