The automatic transmission control module (TCM) fitted to Audi vehicles are known as common failing parts, causing several kinds of transmission related issues. From automatics to semi-automatics, mechatronic, multitronic and S-Tronic to DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) vehicles – all are known to be affected.

Occasionally these faults can be rectified by a simple Gearbox Oil change or software update, however, most generally the fault is caused by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or more commonly known as the Gearbox ECU.

Common Audi DSG Transmission Control Module Problems
There are many faults that can be caused by a failed Transmission Control Unit (TCU). Faults can be intermittent or sometimes become progressively worse, all depending on the nature of the problem, however, they can be mostly repaired. Common Transmission Control Related DTC Fault Codes
It is not always easy to identify the problem caused by a failed DSG controller, as the DSG controller may not always bring up warning lights or fault codes. S-Tronic TCU RepairsCommon Transmission Control Unit (TCU) Part Numbers
The cost of replacing your DSG Gearbox ECU when the part becomes faulty has quoted to be in excess of £1000 + VAT from local dealers and would require programming at an additional cost. A standard 12 month warranty is supplied with your new replacement part, or the option to replace the DSG/CVT Transmission ECU with a used second-hand part with only 30-90 day limited warranty, which again will require coding/programming at an additional cost.

The MK60 ATE Teves ABS pump is fitted to a wide variety of vehicles from all makes of manufacture and includes the Suzuki group vehicles. This type of ABS pump has an internal brake pressure sensor manufactured inside the unit is commonly known for it’s pressure sensor fault and is very expensive to replace. Earlier ABS pumps never had this fault because the pressure sensor was never before fitted inside the ABS pump – but these new type of ABS units are failing all day long and it’s a major design fault with all internal pressure sensor units.

How To Detect The Suzuki Brake Pressure Sensor Fault
When the pressure sensor has failed on the Suzuki ABS system, the traction control light will be illuminated and sometimes the ABS light as well. The traction control (ESP) button may also be illuminated and pressing the button will have no affect.

If your Suzuki has the dreaded Brake Pressure Sensor fault then you probably already have had a scary quote from a dealer of £1200+. Even second hand used parts are not cheap and require additional coding / programming. Neither of these options are recommended because it doesn’t fix the root cause of the problem and you will be just waiting on the day for it to fail again.

Why Modify The Unit? – Why Not Just Replace The Damaged Part?
All cars prior to the MK60 ATE ABS unit had the pressure sensor fitted externally and never failed.

If we fit a standard part inside the pump it will still have the design fault it was manufactured with and although we can put a warranty on the unit and replace the sensor each time it fails (because they are cheap as chips to buy) you will still be left inconvenienced by having to remove the unit each time it fails and pay for the labour each time. We rework the original design and ensure that our modified units are rebuilt to last.

Please understand that although the ESP system is not absolutely crucial, modifying the ABS controller / pump in any way (without superior extensive knowledge) in the technology of advanced braking systems and electronic control modules, you will be risking the life of others. Please do not attempt to repair these units yourself and please do not offer such services to trade or the general public. We have been in business since 1972 as a group company and all our parts, services are fully tested before leaving the workshop. Once the clutch actuator fails, your local dealer will quote you in excess of £700 +VAT, Labour and Programming. The new replacement unit will only come with a standard 12 month warranty. If you’ve got a Ford Transit van, Transit Connect or even the Ford Tourneo Connect van from 2000 – 2006 then it may well be fitted with the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump, which I’m afraid to say is a very common failing part. We see several of these units being sent in to us each week for repair, so if your Ford Diesel Pump has developed then you’ve come to the right place.

This particular diesel pump is designed with the Electronic Control Module, namely the Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) unit mounted to the top of the diesel pump with wires fixed into the unit, making it difficult to separate. A majority of the time it is the EDC unit which fails on these diesel pumps and not the mechanical components themselves.

The Bosch EDC module has been manufactured using Hybrid technology and is extremely delicate. Just opening the unit without experience can cause damage and some of the main components are very susceptible to shock and vibration.

Common Ford Transit / Tourneo Van Problems + Symptoms
Faults relating to the diesel pump EDC failure on Ford Transit and Tourneo vans can vary quite a bit depending on how the unit has failed. You could have just a slight misfire caused by a faulty diesel pump or a complete non-starter. Below we’ve listed the most common faults we’ve found with the

The Bosch VP44 (PSG5) Diesel Pump is a very common failing part and found fitted to a variety of vehicles including the Ford range of Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo’s manufactured between 2000 and 2005. This particular design has the Diesel Pump ECU / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control Unit) mounted to the top of the hydraulic / mechanical diesel pump unit.

Inside the EDC Bosch is using hybrid technology to control the pressure and flow of the diesel pump but with it being mounted to the top of the mechanical unit it is subjected to heat and vibration which are too common known causes of premature failure for internal components.

Common EDC Failure Problems / Symptoms
The EDC can fail in many ways and the fault symptoms can vary quite a bit from having just the engine light illuminated on the dashboard to breaking down and having a complete non-starter. Below we’ve listed some of the common faults we’ve seen from customers sending EDC units in for repair.

If your Diesel Pump EDC has failed then your local dealer will probably be quoting you for a very expensive replacement of the complete unit with additional costs for labour and coding / programming. This is because the EDC unit is not available to purchase as a separate part to the Diesel Pump. The new replacement part will require coding and will only come with a limited 12 month warranty. The alternative option would be to replace your diesel pump with a second-hand used part for much less but the unit will come with a limited 30-90 day warranty and also require coding / programming.

Bosch VP44 EDC ProblemsOur Ford Diesel Pump EDC Repair Service
We are able to fully bench test + repair the Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump Controller (EDC). We use new genuine OEM components when rebuilding the Diesel Pump EDC to ensure each and every EDC Repair unit meets & exceeds OE specifications. Our rebuilt EDC units are fully plug & play, meaning no coding / programming is required and all remanufactured units come completed with our LIFETIME warranty.

Bosch VP44 Diesel Pump RebuildsNote: The Bosch VP44 Electronic Diesel Control unit uses hybrid technology and can be damaged very easily so it is advised NOT to try a DIY repair. These units should only be opened by experienced specialists with extensive knowledge in hybrid EDC technology.

Removing the EDC unit can be very involved and we do offer a professional fitting service at our Diesel Pump Repair Workshop if required.
